I have a confusing situation.
I received a document in the mail today, addressed to “SS” Not my first name, but the last name is correct. It is about unemployment claims, which is sent to employers whose employees have filed a claim. I am not an employer. So I thought it was just a mistake.
But when I flipped to the back, it says the person who filed the claim was “CS” – me. I did NOT file any claims. I did not file, sign, or send any documents of this sort. Is someone trying to impersonate me? Or steal unemployment benefits (thinking that I have some)?
The thing that worries me is that it not only had my name, but my Social Security number. How could someone get that?
I have to call up the unemployment office first thing tomorrow morning. But I’m really starting to worry. Does anyone have any similar experience? Or knowledge about this kind of thing? Thanks for any help!
