Seriously I am 5 months away from my wedding and I know if it happens now I'd totally ruin the silhouette of my beautiful dress!  lol okay I know its totally ridiculous to be worried about something like this, but for some reason it is like CONSUMING my thoughts.. almost to the point where I don't want to be doing things that may lead to children.  I think it's just that I have babies on my brain lately.  A LOT of my friends and coworkers had babies this year, and now several more are preggers.  The fiance and I take several precautions for this type of thing, but I just do not trust any of them!

I know Mrs. Dumpling was pregnant on her wedding day and looked absolutely beautiful, and having a baby would be wonderful... but I am still scared to death!!  Please tell me I am not the only irrational person with these thoughts???

Funny you should mention, because I've been having the same paraoid thoughts lately too! A ton of my co workers had babies this year too, so it must just be on the brain. Glad to know I'm not the only one :)

I think you are just worried about messing up your wedding plans!  If you are using birth control pills and condoms the possibility that you would get pregnant is so small it's not even possible to calculate!  Don't worry about it, it won't happen!

like missasb said, if youre using proper precautions the chances of getting pregnant are so very slim. when used correctly, birth control pills are 99% effective and condoms are around 97% effective.

lol yeah yeah I know it "probably" won't happen, but its more just like what Elizabeth is saying- paranoia!!  I've always been super paranoid and a huge worrier so it's more just like OMG 99.7% effective, what about the other .3?!?

Usually the .3% of people that have problems with condoms are the ones who use it wrong.  Just make sure that you are squeezing the tip before you put it on and then rolling it down.  Put it on before any contact occurs between you two and only take it off when you are done and throw it away immediately.  You will be fine!

haha...i thought it was just me.  We got engaged in March 2009 and will be getting married in June 2010.  I started doing calculations in my head like..."It's April, if I got pregnant, I'd have the baby in January.  I'd have until June to lose the baby wait".  Repeat for several months.  Now, I think, "Oh no, It's December, I'll be 6 months pregnant in June...I couldn't wear my dress".  Luckily, the thought has subsided a lot...hopefully it will for you too.

It is very unlikely it will happen but.. to ease your worries a bit on a first pregnancy women usually don't even start showing until 4 months and so at 5 months you will still be itty bitty and have a beautiful silhouette! But as I said it is very unlikely that it will happen.

Yes definitely!!  Even though I know it's totally irrational b/c I'm on the pill, I still keep thinking that if I got preggers right now I would be about to pop a baby out on our wedding day.  Definitely not good.  Hopefully I'll chill out in a few months.  I mean, if you got pregnant 2 or 3 months before your wedding then you wouldn't even be showing on your wedding day.  I've definitely had friends who were in their late 30's and worried about concieving start trying several months before their wedding day though.  One friend was definitely already pregnant when she got married.  Now she's 40, has 2 babies, and couldn't be happier.

I'm on birth control, but for some reason I still get paranoid about it! Like, omg, working so hard to lose weight and look fab on the wedding day.... but what if I get pregnant! Oh well, we're being safe, so let's hope we can delay babies a few more years.

Haha, I feel you!  I am not so worried about it now, but earlier in the engagement I was. I actually had my Great-Uncle ask my parents if the reason I was having such a short engagement was because I was pregnant! Lol!  And I have the total paranoia like Scissors said, even though I am on the pill, some months when I am super stressed and my "visitor" comes a few days late, I start freaking out!

it's definitely crossed my mind once a month since we've been engaged!

not that i'm not using protection, but just by PURE bad luck... i'd be the one that got preggos, with 9 months left til the wedding! AHHHHHHH

lol this makes me giggle because I'm losing sleep over it as well! We recently hit the 9 month mark and all I kept thinking is "holy cow, from this point out if I get pregnant I will either a) have a baby on my wedding day or b) being to big for my dress!" or "what would my father do?!"

I am on the pill and we do use condoms but we aren't always perfect about it. I've gotten to the point where I don't even want to do certain activities because I'm so paranoid and irrational about it!

I've now dreampt a couple times that I got pregnant before the wedding. It's really scary, because in the dream I'm trying to decide what to do since we don't want kids period AND we aren't married yet. It is such a good feeling when I wake up!

This post made me giggle!! I'm exactly the same way. All I can think about it what if I got pregnant now - I'd be due the same time as my wedding almost!! It's so bad that my fiance and I are scared to do anything sometimes!  I'm on the pill, but we refuse to do anything the first week of my pack, just in case!  And we even use back-up protection too :D  We keep telling ourselves, we are so close now we can't make an OOPS!! I'm so glad I'm not the only paronoid bride - thanks guys!!

When we were about 8 months from the wedding, FI kept saying, "if we can just make it through the next 2 or 3 months without getting pregnant, that would be great." Uhh... yes dear, but that would still mean I'd be rocking a bump! Let's shoot for the avoiding a bump for the next 8 months instead, kthanks.

Thanks for posting this, I have been completly paranoid about this too!! I know the chances are slim which I try and tell myself to feel better but I still really worry.  I am just a worrywart in general and I know I dont want anything to make the wedding not perfect.  Not that I wouldnt love a baby but my FMIL has also threatened on pain of death she doesnt want grandchildren any closer then 9 months from the wedding. Grr!

I am worried about this too! I'm just under 5 months away, and we wants kids soon, just not that soon! It didn't help that my pregnant coworker joking started teasing me about being pregnant after I went home with a stomach bug one day.

I could probably manage to alter my dress, since it's pretty flowy for our outdoor wedding, but I think I'd be pretty embarrassed to be up there 4-5 mos pregnant. It's been on my mind a bit lately, and I'm hoping our precautions work well at least until the wedding!

If you're concerned about it, I would just double up!

We're using two forms of BC because of how difficult it would be for us to raise a child right now.  I'm still a little paranoid about it, and hubby is worse!

I can't wait for the day when a pregnancy seems feasible!

ROFL thanks for the health lesson MissAsb ;)  We're always very careful- condoms, the pill (, abstinence lol).  Just with my luck Jupiter will align with Neptune or whatever and it will just be one of those freak accidents.  I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only crazy one out there with these irrational nagging thoughts!  It's funny bc usually I'm the one teasing my fiance about having kids right away and now I'm the one like "noooo no babies right now!  if you get me pregnant you're dead!" lol

I'm not getting married yet but I don't freak out about being pregnant.  i definitely do not want to be pregnant yet but if it were to happen i would work around it, like wait to get married until after the baby was born.  ive had no problems taking the birth control pill though. i didnt know this was actually a fear many women have but apprently its popular! maybe ill start freaking out about it once im actually engaged, haha.

Um I'm totally worried because pregnancy would end my engagement.... I have no health coverage for pregnancy (ugh) so if I get preggo... we head to the courthouse STAT so I can get proper healthcare.

Haha.  I just had a dream where I was heavily pregnant and couldn't fit into my dress.  In my dream, I had to start looking for another dress that would cover up the pregnancy.  It wasn't exactly a nightmare, but I guess I must be worried about it.

In reality, my wedding is only 3 months away, so this would never happen.  But this thread made me smile.

@MissAsB: I have this secret fear, too.  There are now over-the-counter fertility tests that work like pregnancy tests.  I don't think they come close to diagnosing every fertility problem out there, but they're supposed to give you an idea of your ovarian reserve.

I'd love to hear a medical opinion on these tests (hint, hint to any doctor or nurse bees out there).  I wonder whether it's even worth taking one:

Glad I'm not the only one.  While we're already married, with FH's job up in the air (which would mean he would have to move) and my job situatiom, that our lives are already so crazy, and just not feeling ready at all to have a baby, I get paranoid about it despite having an IUD.  I check the strings about every 2 weeks- not sure I'm doing it right, but everytime my stomach acts up, I have this fear that I'm knocked up already.

Just to put this idea out there, if using two forms of birth control is not doing enough to quell anyone's worries about pregnancy, you could always stop having sex until the wedding day. Or you could limit sex to the beginning and end of your cycle, to avoid the time of ovulation when pregnancy would occur.

I completely feel everyone on this!  I recently had to go off of the pill due to some nasty side effects.  Although I have been very safe (abstinence, condoms)-I am still so scared of getting pregnant.  I have always been very paranoid, so with my wedding less than 90 days away-it has gone into overdrive!  So glad I am not the only one who worries about this type of thing.

You're not the only one!  I was even more paranoid about it at first, but we're getting used to the whole condoms thing, I'm still on my pill but I am now taking antibiotics as part of my skin regimen, so still paranoid, but not as much.  Just have to be careful.

Me me me! I'm 8 months away from the Canadian wedding - which means I would be flying home uber pregnant - and depending on the pregnancy, not even allowed to fly.  I had strep throat 2 weeks ago and was on antibiotics (I'm on bcp) so I told FI we couldn't sleep together. He was upset until I told him I might get pregnant. He backed away hands up in the air and said 'no no no no no! not before the wedding!' so i'm glad we're on the same paranoia page!

I have thought of this many times! I am 9 months away from the wedding...

Even knowing the small chance that it could actually happen, still scares me. I won't be calm until I am 3 months away! lol.
