Okay, here’s the deal. My now husband and I had to do a fast wedding on a tiny budget (military and moving)…so I bought a wedding band and engagement ring set for $40. It’s beautiful and most people can’t tell it’s not real. I’ve even told him it’s my ideal set. I love the fact we didn’t have to pay so much and if it gets lost or stolen, it won’t be a hunge chunk of change to replace it. Plus my conscious doesn’t feel guilty wondering if it’s a blood diamond.
My problem? I want something a bit more sturdy and..”real”…I guess you could say. Do any of you have suggestions? Will I get used to wearing a diamond and stop being afraid the more I wear it? I’m not really a fan of colored stones for engagement rings, but I do like soft pinks with some sets. Please feel free to share photos!
@littlefe: Yes and no. It’s a D color on the diamond color scale, so there is not a hint of color in the stone itself. It’s just the refractive index of the stone tends to show more blue. I’m sure it’s something scientific and about the color spectrum that is a bit beyond me before coffee.
It tends to be more “blue” if I’m under a clear sky or I’m not cleaning it as often as I should.
@HelleCat: Yeah thats something I don’t really like about my CZ. It’s amazing when cleaned, so I clean it just before I go out usually, but it’s usually ready to be cleaned again by the next day (or maybe its just my imagination). Still, I’d like something I don’t have to clean so often.
@littlefe: Wearing it daily, I only clean it once a week if that. Unless I’m at the mall on my lunch break and then I take it for its beauty treatment at my jewelers. Once a week I’ll pop it in the little $15 “sonic cleaner” I got at walmart and it works just fine.
@littlefe: If you like soft pinks, or you want a white stone, you gotta think about moissanite. The old ones were discolored by the Amora is really brilliant white. They also make a gorgeous soft pink that might appeal.
You have other options but they will not be as sturdy as these.
I’m personally partial to sapphires. You can find them ethically for a deccent price if you know where to look. I also find that I like the way they shine better than a diamond or a Moissanite. They are just softer on the eye particularly the natural stones which still have their silk intact.
I always wanted a sapphire mine is a color change purple :).
I used to be terrified to wear my diamond or do anything like showering, sleeping with it, anything. I got over it quite quickly and barely take it off now. but like everyone else said, there are a ton of other options as well!
