I wrote a post last week that went like this:
Last Monday I had some slight spotting, called the doctor, was told to follow up if things got worse. Tuesday morning I woke up with more spotting, freaked out, and went to the ER. They did an internal exam, determined that my cervix was closed and told me to call my doctor.
I called the doctor, went in, had another internal exam and again, the cervix was closed. They listened to the baby’s heartbeat and it was steady at 140 (where it’s been almost every time we’ve gone in). After the exams, bleeding got a little worse and I freaked out because I saw a few tiny clots after I’d been laying down for long periods of time. Called the doctor, was told not to worry unless I started heavily cramping, or soaking a pad an hour.
During the day it usually almost goes away or is lighter but after I’ve been sleeping, it’s usually a brighter red with a bit more. It’s been coming and going for 4 days now.
Went again to the doctor this morning. Heard the baby’s heartbeat again at 140 bpm and was told he/she was moving around a lot! They offered to do an internal ultrasound but I didn’t want to make things worse with the bleeding and the doctor didn’t think it was worth it since they heard the baby’s heartbeat.
Now here I am, 14 weeks. The spotting slowly went away over the last week and today it was gone all day until about an hour ago. I wiped and saw some light pink discharge and have had a little more since. I’m freaking out! The doctor said not to worry if it came back unless I was soaking a pad an hour.I’m scared it’s going to get worse. However, I don’t understand why it went completely away and is now back!
I don’t know what to do. Is it possible this is something I have to just deal with or do I go back to the doctor YET again? My next appointment is a week from tomorrow for an ultrasound.

@Bee27: I’d like to say that it’s just something you will have to deal with, but I’m not pregnant and I just don’t know =( Hugs to you. I’m sorry you’re going through this. Can you go to an urgent care to ease your mind? When is your next appointment? I have heard of a lot of ladies on here who spotted twice or three times in their pregnancies.

@ChuckNorris: My next appointment is next Thursday. And if I go to the ER or doctor again, they’ll just do another internal exam which will make me spot more. 🙁

I have not suffered from this but I know some women do spot their entire pregnancy. If you were just at the doctor this morning and they said it was OK I would try not to worry. If possible lay down and rest, drink tons of water and eat healthy meals. Try to relax. If you do start soaking a pad I would go back to the ER or call the doctor again. My OB has a nurse line you can call with questions all the time so you could try calling them if you need reassurance. Good luck xo

@MissMusic: I heard the heartbeat last Friday. I haven’t been since then. They told me unless I was soaking a pad to just wait it out.
To clarify, the spotting/bleeding has happened over the last week and has slowly gone away. Today it was gone all day and then came back about an hour or so ago. It’s very light.

I know how stressfull spotting can be. I spotted from week 5-17 for no reason.
Unless you have red and heavier bleeding accompanied by cramps, you’re likely fine.
I know it’s hard not worry, but by the sounds of your last appointments, bubs is healthy and fine!
You may just have an irritable cervix or something like that!

@Bee27: Unfortunately it might just be something you’ll have to deal with throughout your pregnancy. With this pregnancy I had quite a bit of bright red bleeding at about 8 weeks, but everything was fine. I had bleeding again at 24 weeks-ish and everything was fine again. Some women just spot more throughout their pregnancies 🙂

I’m so sorry you’re scared! Spotting can be so scary during pregnancy. I found out mine was internal hemmorhoids, but only after going to the ER. I agree that you should lay down, make sure you’re hydrated, and try to rest. Go back to the ER or call your doctor if you can’t stop worrying. Don’t worry about bothering them or asking too many questions. I burned-up the phone lines when I was worried. Keep asking questions until you feel reassured.

@urchin: Thanks for the comment. My SIL said I need to just accept that this may be part of the pregnancy for awhile and not stress unless I start filling a pad or am doubled over with cramps. Even though I know it happens during pregnancy, it’s is still very scary.

I’m not pregnant nor have I ever been, but I agree with your SIL and others who have said not to worry unless you’re bleeding heavily or are having severe cramps. Please try to relax and rest up! I can only imagine how worried you may be! Keep us updated!

I have a friend who bled quite a bit throughout her pregnancy due to a heart-shaped uterus…but I know I would be equally worried, too! Keep resting and try to relax.

I can imagine that you are quite scared about the bleeding. I’m sorry you’re having to go through this 🙁 Did they say if you have placenta previa or not? It’s when the placenta covers the cervix and can cause some benign bleeding throughout the pregnancy. Also, as PP have said, some women just spot the whole time. Listen to your doctor and only become concerned with heavy bleeding/cramps. Worrying won’t help you or the baby!

just take it easy hunn, or at least try to. If it gets heavy or worse go to the er but since you said that it’s very light then i guess everything should be fine.

@Nurse_Bee: They haven’t said anything about the placenta. Perhaps my ultrasound next Thursday will explain something?
@Bee27: Yes, it would show where the placenta is lying. Not saying that is definitely the cause, but it is a possibility. Keep us updated!
