Hi Petetobe! congratulations on your engagement :)!
We got married at French Creek Golf Club, which is in Chester County PA (Elverson). They have packaged that are super resonable (we had ours on a Sunday, which helped with the cost), and even though it's a golf club, it has a more quaint, country feel to it. There's a beautiful Sycamore tree by a pond and springhouse where you can get married outside if the weather is nice.
Did a quick search and here's a link to a photographer's blog showcasing the venue (not my wedding or photog ;)).
Good luck!
@petetobe: hi and congrats! Have you looked into the Renault Winery in Egg Harbor, NJ? There is plenty of indoor and outdoor space and its really unique. I believe you can be under $120 pp, because everything is piecemeal there. You may not get as much, but I thought it was beautiful!
Good luck!
@petetobe: Lambertville station in nj is right on the water across from new hope. Good Luck!
Smithville Inn near AC is like $85/person...I have never been there so I can't really vouch for what it is like or anything, but a coworker's daughter recently got married there and they had nothing but good things to say!
Not sure if that $120pp is exhaustive (tables, linens, chairs, rentals, etc) or if it just food/beverage costs only.

We were married at the Washington Crossing Inn and it was perfect. It is about 15 min below New Hope along the Delaware River. $100 per person and includes centerpieces, tax & gratuity. 10-15% discount for Friday night, Saturday day, and Sunday weddings. www.washingtoncrossinginn.com
@Seaside: Ah totally forgot about Smithville Inn - I know someone getting married there next October and she is on a budget - its SOOOO nice there!
@petetobe: Welcome!! Have you looked at the Collingswood Ballroom? One of my BMs is getting married this August there, and I think they are paying about 100/head. I know it includes a lot with it too, so it's definite worth a look!
The Smithville Inn in Smithville. It's where I was supposed to have my wedding. It's absolutely gorgeous and the pricing is great. Good luck.
Thank you all so much!!! I am going to look into all of these places! You all are so helpful! I will keep you all posted! Thank you!
@stammie16, yes! My sister got married at Renault Winery in 2006. It was gorgeous, and probably would be one of my choices if she hadn't already created her own memories there :)
I'm from Wilmington, DE, and somewhere I looked was the University and Whist Club.
It's an old mansion that is now a dining club and they added a ballroom that can hold up to 150 guests.
The mansion is gorgeous! You can get married outside on the lawn and have cocktail hour through a few rooms in the mansion.
Unfortunately, the ballroom is a little lackluster compared to the rest of the club, but it's still nice. And the food is supposed to be really good! Prices were below $120, inclusive of entrees, apps, HDs, drinks, cake, linens and centerpieces. We ultimately didn't go with it because it was too small for us, but it might be worth a look for you!
I was going to post pictures, but I can't find them (WTF?)- If I come across them on my computer I'll post later!
Check out the Old Mill in Media (technically, Rose Valley). It's a secluded 18th century venue on Ridley Creek. The venue has a beautiful meadow if you wanted an outdoor ceremony, two outdoor courtyards, indoor ballroom area, and the building itself is beautiful stone. The rental fee is pretty reasonable, especially on Sundays, and you can easily do $120 per person for food, plus it's BYOB! And Conner Catering has a stellar reputation. I'm getting married there in September and I can't wait to put together the menu! Their websit has some pics, but also check out Conner Catering's Facebook page, many more evtn photos there.
Good luck!
What about the Valenzano Winery? It looks really nice and I only recently heart about it. They work with a bunch of caterers so maybe you can call around and get the best deal? I looked at a few and they looked to be around $100/pp.
Have you looked at Colonial Dames in old city Philadelphia? it's exactly like you described.
Good luck and let us know what you choose!
My fiance and I are getting married at the Morris Arboretum in Chestnut Hill. It's totally beautiful and we're using one of their caterers (you can choose from a bunch) at like 70pp, but we are providing our own alcohol. The site fee is a lil up there but totally worth it. Our cake is included in the catering costs and you'd get an awesome coordinator too!
I used Partyspace.com to find oprices at places without calling all of the venues.. I just wanted preminilary ideas.

Hello bees!
I am newly engaged and ready to jump right into the venue hunt! We are planning a spring/summer 2013 wedding most likely in the Philly, Delaware, South Jersey area. We hope to have no more than 125 guests at about $120/pp or less. We are looking for a venue that is not the typical ballroom space... I immediately fell in love with Holly Hedge Estates in New Hope but that came with a heftier price tag than we wanted for the venue alone... But something along the same lines with a nice outside and inside would be ideal-- a little historic/rustic/garden feel. We would like to have the ceremony outdoors but since we have no control over the elements, we would really love a beautiful indoor space as well!!! PLEASE HELP!!!! :)
