No, a year out is not too early.  As you said, things are starting to book up!

For venue..no not too early. there are a lot that book up well over a year in advance especially for summer months.

Might as well start now!  You might not like it or have many more tours!

It’s not too early.  September/October are very popular wedding months, which means that you should be looking now.  Also, the venue is the most important decision that you will make – it will determine the character of your event and your budget.  You want to take your time.  My FI and I took 4 months to pick a venue after we got engaged, it takes time.  Otherwise, unless you’re in a small town, there’s no need to overly stress yourself out about getting everything booked immediately.  The vendors that I have encountered have had more than sufficient availability.

Squirrelz15:  Who knows, you might fall in love with it and want to book it before anyone else gets your date!  I suggest talking about ideal dates for the wedding so you can see what’s available in your more specific time ranges 🙂

Squirrelz15:  not too early at all. my wedding is sept 2015 and i booked the venue in May! there was only one date left and i toured the venue and left a deposit that same day 🙂 so no you’re not early considering how popular sept/oct is for weddings.

ScubaSiren:  Oh man.  That scares me!  Hoping my SO proposes soon so I can book a venue for next September >_<  The good thing is, we’re only planning on about 20 people, so it’s easier to find a place to put them all rather than finding a place to put about 100!

Squirrelz15:  Definitely not too early! We knew we wanted a fall wedding at an outdoor venue and we started venue-hunting a few weeks after we got engaged last spring (because we knew nothing would be avialable on a saturday night in fall of the same year). Even when we were looking at places in May 2013 for September 2014 dates, there were already Friday and Saturdays that were getting booked up. Definitely start early and take your time to find what you love. There are only so many weekends in summer/fall and everyone seems to want those dates!  Good luck!

damarajade: i wouldnt worry too much. we needed a venue to hold about 200 people that wasn’t in a hotel. funny thing is that the venue, band and photographer was booked before he even proposed. we loved the venue, the price was right and we just didnt want to wait until 2016 when we’d have a choice of what ever date we wanted. so we went ahead and booked it. plus to be honest there isnt a lof of nice places to chose from where i live. so i was kinda limited. if i only had about 20 ppl then i’d be laughing!

Squirrelz15:  In my area you are nearly late to the party! We wanted a fall wedding and looked in Summer 2013 for a fall 2014 venue

We found the venue we LOVED and guess what, by august 2013 ALL THE SATURDAYS from may 2014-november 2014 were booked! Already! I live in Chicago so April is super ugly here and Novermber starts to get cold ( and I didnt want to wait that long, want outdoor ceremony) So now I have my September wedding but have to do a Friday wedding.

So def book now!

I’m type A to the core so I think booking a year in advance is ideal! lol Besides, you’re just looking and there isn’t even a guarantee you’ll end up choosing that one.

Have fun!! What an exciting time! 🙂

I booked my venue in June for next September. And at that time a lot of the venues I contacted were already taken for Saturdays in September and October except for Halloween. So I’d definitely say you’re not too early, it’s better to get the venue done as early as you can.
