If I buy and alter my dress in the city where the wedding is going to be, I’ll have to have my first and second fittings 2 and 3 months out, respectively. My final fitting would have to be a day or two before the wedding, so there would be almost no time to make any changes, if they’re necessary. Is this practical?

@sunflower22: my seamstress does 3 fittings and then the final dress pick up a couple of days before the wedding (so it’s not a “fitting” per se, but there’s still time to urgently alter anything if needed). Maybe you could suggest that option? Or do you live far away from where the alterations will take place?

I bought my dress in a city 3 hours from here but just picked it up and brought it home for alterations when it came in. Why can’t you do that?

I can transport the dress if necessary. The question is which is wiser?
1) Buy the dress and get it altered where I live, and then take it with me on the plane when I go home for the wedding, or
2) Buy the dress in the city where the wedding is going to be, and get it altered over Thanksgiving and Christmas of next year for a 2/21 wedding.
