My FI and I have been excited about getting married from the get go. So, picking out rings would be the easy part and it initially started out that way. We went up to the City where my FI purchased my engagement ring. The matching wedding band to my engagement ring was a little too flashy for me so we decided to look around. Sadly nothing else caught my eye in the store but the jeweler said she can custom make rings. A few months past and I found the perfect ring at Tiffany's but not wanting to pay the Tiffany price I went back to our jeweler to see what it would cost for her to make it. To my delight it was within our budget! My FI picked out his ring and we left very exciting to see our wedding bands and we were happy we didn't have to put down a deposit. Now, this was back in early Dec. 2009. Our jeweler said they'd be ready by the end of Jan. So, Dec and Jan came and went and no word from our jeweler. I called twice and only got an answering machine. My FI could tell I was starting to fret about this and he called. Amazingly our jeweler answered. She said they have been super busy with an EXPO and haven't got to our rings but they'd be ready around Feb. 23 and she had a client there so she'd call him back... but she never did. My FI reassured me everything was fine and we'd hear from her on the 23rd. Well, if you can guess by now the 23rd rolled around and no phone call. My FI called numerous times and got the machine each time. We had made friends with the jeweler and we both had her on facebook. After several more unanswered phone calls I had it. I called and left a message to let her know we were taking our business elsewhere and I was extremely disappointed. Since no response from her or any of the other 2 jewelers that worked there. So, Friday my FI and I in need of rings for our April wedding ventured out to price rings and make an order to make sure we have something on our wedding day. My FI decided to post on facebook that morning that we'd be out getting rings that day. He had a hunch she'd respond to this and she did! We got phone calls, emails, the works. But for me the damage had been done. My trust and ability to believe her was over and done. I couldn't imagine what would happen if there was any problem with the ring and trying to get her to help. She offered to discount my FI's ring and later emailed me that our rings had been made and ready. I just couldn't believe a family owned jewelry store could be so shady and have such bad service. The jeweler claimed she had a family emergency. If she did I can sympathize but shouldn't another staff member call her customers back and notify them of this!
In the end we both found beautiful rings at a reputable jeweler in San Jose, CA. A jeweler that both our families have both used in the past. Since we had shopped around we were even able to get the jeweler to bring down the prices! I love our wedding bands. So, all in all it worked out for the best! I just couldn't believe what we had to go through to get to this point. So, buyer beware!
