I spoke to a couple different quartets before going with a friend. I can't remember the names/contact info off the top of my head, but I can message you the info. Both were fairly reasonable in $ and seemed quite flexible.
We booked a string duo (cello and violin) that I contacted through the UM school of music. They are very professional and also less expensive than many professional groups I found online. I'll check with them to see if they'd be willing to let me post their contact info, but in the meantime, if you're interested, PM me. :)
We booked students from U of M too....we hired a celtic/bluegrass three piece. Like Jessie516, I can check to see if they would want me to post their contact info, otherwise, pm me.
This is one of my most anticipated pieces....they're terrific and I think they'll bring a lot of fun to the event.
How would one go about contacting the U of M music school for musicians? We are having a small wedding at a historic chapel in Northville and need some sort of music as the chapel does not have a sound system.
KaterTot214, what type of music/instrumentation are you looking for? I might try contacting the School of Music office (http://www.music.umich.edu/#) and asking if they have a list of student ensembles. They may also have a list of contact information by department (i.e. strings or trumpet, or whatever). If you're looking for strings, PM me and I can give you the contact info for our cellist who was fantastic.
Sure racwalt1, . It really worked out great for us. The students we hired were professional, sounded great and didn't cost us an arm and a leg. I think trying to hire student musicians is a great way to save money without sacrificing quality.
We ended up booking through Garza Violins (http://garzaviolins.com). Ramon Garza is an absolute sweetheart! While we only booked a violin duo for our tiny intimate ceremony, they also have a quartet available. Contact Ramon and ask for their sample CD!

Any recommendations? Our ceremony is at the Dearborn Inn. We were recommended the Rondo String Quartet but they are booked.
