- Wedding: September 2014
I was between two sizes on the chart and ordered the smaller of the two, but it seems like I STILL may have ordered my bridemaid’s dress a full size too big. This makes sense because the size I got is 3 sizes bigger than I wear in street clothes rather than the usual two. I feel like I need to have the whole thing taken in in addition to shortening the one-shoulder strap and hemming (which I expected I’d have to have done because I am short).
I’m pretty afraid this will cost around $100. I already spent $260 on the dress, $55 on the shoes, need a purse, going to be flying for the wedding and staying in a hotel and buying a gift, etc. I just graduated, have been studying for a licensing exam all summer (cant start work until I take it), and the wedding is before I’ll be receiving my first paycheck, so I’d reaaaally prefer to spend as little as possible on alterations.
Does anyone know a good seamstress on Long Island who might charge $50 or less for a job like this? Preferably in Nassau County (I live near JFK airport), but Queens, Suffolk, or even the city would be ok. Or should I just wear the dress too big and only shorten the strap and fix the hemline?
I really appreciate any help!!
