I used Ms. Couture in Lincoln Park. Their pricing is pretty competitive, but they do good work. The man person you work with is a little quirky, but she does a good job!
Congrats! Please post pics!
I am using Mary Catomy. I've only had one fitting so far, so I don't know what the final cost and end result will be. However, I thought she was just a doll at the first fitting and can't wait to see the end product. Get on her calendar asap if you want to use her.
Thanks so much for the recommendations!!! Here are the pics of my dress. I love her and can't wait until she fits just right :-)
I also used Toula and Ms. Couture, and while she did really good work, I would just recommend that you do lots of follow-up if you get alterations done during high season. I had a short dress that only needed to be taken in a smidge at the waist. I called 7 weeks before our wedding, and came in a week and a half after that, which was her first available appointment. She said minimal work needed to be done, but she was busy, and it wouldn't be done until a week before our wedding, which was four days before we left for our DW.
I found out the day I was supposed to pick it up that it wasn't done (which I had to go all the way to the shop to discover). I was upset because it had been five weeks for some small alterations and she told me she hadn't even started yet. Toula assured me that she just needed a few more days, and I told her we were leaving in four! I ended up getting my dress the day before we left. It was incredibly stressful.
Like I said, Toula does an amazing job, but during busy season, she's very obviously stressed out and disorganized. I would definitely recommend her, but just always follow-up, and perhaps even lie about your wedding day so she doesn't make you wait until the day before to get your dress.
@clane616: Hi, I also got my dress at Running of the Bride! Congratulations! I don't know if you found a place for alterations but I went to a final fitting for a friend of mines and her person is awesome and cheap compared to what I have looked at. Her name is Rosie and the name of the company is Maria's Alterations, Inc...they are located at 11 E. Adams St. Ste. 502; 312.341.1751...I am using her as well! Congrats again!
Congratulations!! I also got my dress at the running of the brides! I am planning on using Ms.Couture as well. Good Luck!
Im going to use this lady who did my girlfriend alterations. She does it from her home, let me mention her house is HUUGE! lol, and shes in Desplanes. Let me know if you would like her number. Her prices are reasonable, Ive had her alter 2 bridemaids dresses and I was very happy with the outcome.

Hi! I just bought my dress at Running of the Brides. It's going to need some altering so I was wondering if anyone out there had recommendations of a place they'd used and were happy with the outcome (or if there is a place to steer clear of that's good to know too!).
Thanks!!!
