    Hello other Wedding Bees,

I'm in need of some help. I live in the city of San Francisco and have been up and down the stores in Chinatown and visted Britex and have not found a good fabric for a new cheongsam dress. I already know the style I want but could not find a pre-made dress with both the style and a good pattern. If anyone can help me or have some experience with this, please buzz into my ears.

Style: Long one-piece red dress with side slits from the mid-thighs down. Top has a collar and medium-sized keyhole design. No upper back, and from the middle front of the collar, the dress cuts off at an angel to meet the back of the dress. The top of the back fo the dress is about 11 inches from my shoulders. I'm 5'4" (5'6" with my shoes) and 140lbs (medium build). I hope that's a clear picture.

Fabric: I'm looking for a luxerious red fabric that is soft on my skin. And its a non-repeating large gold pattern. Possibly a dragon or a phoenix or chrysanthemum. And the back of the dress should have some design to match with the front and not look completely empty. I am having trouble finding a red fabric with a large golden design. It doens't have to be 1 shade of gold only.

Has anyone looked for a similar fabric or know of such a style of dress? Any info at all will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Overly buzzed bee.

Oriental Silks (in Los Angeles) has everything.  Every colour, every style, family owned business for over 70 years.  It would be worth a trip, or if you know what you want, just order. He only has the best quality.

@ju1244: Thanks for the reply Ju1244.

As an update for the bees on this site. I searched and search and wasn't not satisfied with any of the cheongsam's available in the bay area. I also got a PM about a location in Oakland. But while I can see many other Asian gals looking great in them, I certainly didn't. My body type is a little rounder then most asian girls and I also prefer a transitional style between a contemporary and traditional styles. The shops here in the bay area I found were either traditional styles or contemporary, nothing in between the two.

However, during this time I took a risk and tried ordering overseas in desperation. However, I was very fortunate and may have gotten a wonderful dress. It should arrive in a few days. Before making the final order, I got a sample of the material and it's was great quality. So I have high hopes from this vendor.

Just in case though, I am still waiting for the dress, so take my description with a grain of salt. But the seller is goodorient.com.
