Currently in the search for a photographer in the $3000-$4000 range, hoping to get two photographers and an e-session in that package. The style that FI and I both like is, for lack of a better word, dreamy or dream-like. I think Stephanie Williams best embodies our taste: http://stephaniewilliamsphotography.com/blog/

Does anyone know of a photographer with a similar quality and style that can fit into our budget?
Have you looked into Next Exit Photography? I live in Seattle but am from LA (all family is still there) and have several friends who have used them. They're a pretty great couple!

I too love Stephanie Willliams
Yes, Lloyd and Shirley Sharaga of Sharaga studios. They are based out of the valley and are doing our wedding. They were featured on Platinum Weddings in 2007 for the "Mary Beth & Jeff" epsiode. Their work is increadible and their packages for multiple photographers, DVD of pictures, and multiple albums are in that range you mentioned. They are simply increadible.
We're using Jill Thomas (based in San Diego) and we LOVE her. She's one of the nicest people I've ever met and her work is stunning. She's shooting mainly film now (which I think is divine) and she does primarily natural lighting.
I'm not sure about 2 shooters, but we are doing engagement and wedding in your price range.

Ohh I know someone who is a really good photographer... Brian Alexander. I HIGHLY recommend him.... he's one of the photographers that works thru here:

Thanks for the suggestions! We've actually already met with Next Exit (Stephanie Williams used to shoot for them) -- they're good, not as good as Stephanie Williams IMHO, and a little bit on the high side -- $4500.
Sharaga Studios is not really our style.
We had dinged Brandon Kidd and Jill Thomas for some reason, can't remember why, but they fall into the style that we like.
Boutwell looks promising -- any idea how much she costs?

We're using Jim Kennedy Photographers if you want to check them out. Jim's prices are a little higher than you mentioned but his staff is in that range.
I would recommend April Smith Photography. She is in your price range. Her style is a little bit of the dreamy your talk about and the antique look.

I now remember why we dinged Brandon Kidd and Jill Thomas -- Mr. Kidd never responded to our inquiry and Jill was out of our price range and apparently doesn't use a second shooter.
Jeff Newsom is a little funky for our tastes.
Orange Turtle is okay, although they seem to love that fish eye lens, which FI and I hate.
I second Meowkers with Brandon Kidd and Boutwell Studios. LACitizen, he just got married in January, so that may be why he didn't respond to you. His packages are over 4K, but they include a lot of things, so you may be able to negotiate with him to bring down the price, say if you didn't want an album or something like that. Boutwell is very expensive, her packages are around 6K, but her work is so stunning!

she's a friend of mine (and our photographer), and her work is amazing. Her packages are around $2,000 and include an engagement shoot.
I absolutely love Trista Lerit's work. Her work is very similar to Stephanie Williams' work so I think you'll like it. I exchanged a few emails with her in November, but sadly her prices are out of my range. Her 6 hour package is right in your range though!

She is friendly, has an awesome eye, and just really stylized, which probably comes from her background in graphic design and art.
Re: Elizabeth Messina and Jose Villa totally fit your aesthetic but are out of your budget.
Check out Denise Bovee { website + blog }. Her wedding packages start at $3500. We used her for an after wedding shoot (I wanted to wear my dress one more time, yo). Not only was she a sweetheart but our pictures came out beautifully. My husband can be a grump when it comes to taking pictures but she managed to win him over too. I also love that dreamy look that borders on vintage but not quite. Sigh. She's definitely within that aesthetic.
For our wedding we used Sarah K. Chen who has a sort of more streamline-dreamlike touch. However, she's out of your price range (her lowest package for 2010 is $4500).

P.S. Stephanie Williams should seriously shoot for Anthropologie's catalogs. I follow her blog too.

pinkpamulan - Denise did have some moments were her correspondence was bit slower than what I was used to but it wasn't egregious either.
LACitizen - Another tip, if you still can't find a photographer that fits the bill check with Stephanie to see if has any recs. You never know.

Jose Villa, Liz Messina, and Boutwell are in the high, high range (starting at $8000-$10,000). Leigh Miller was our photographer, and I can't recommend her more highly. She might be able to work out a package that is within your range, though I think she's generally around the $5000 area.

I LOVE Stephanie Williams too! I was super excited to book her for our wedding, but she was booked on our date, too! (crazy since I asked 10 months ahead)
ANYhow, I searched for another photographer with her style (including Sarah Chen) and totally fell in love with Harrison Long's work!! We just got our engagement pictures back and I'm in love with them. We took them in a field and they look really romantic and dreamy-- very similar to S.William's style. The price is definitely in your range too! Check him out!!!
Yes, Jose Villa is WAY out of your specified price range - although his work is fantastic. I used Leigh Miller for our wedding, which included an engagement session (and we added on a "day after" session). She is above your price range but might be able to work out a package for you - as hotcocoa said.
T & H photography are great too. They were recently featured on stylemepretty {http://www.stylemepretty.com/gallery/gallery/1171} and are very reasonably priced. The latest pricing I got from Chenin at Boutwell Studios was fairly reasonable as well. I''m actually considering hiring T & H to do our anniversary shoot in SoCal with Grey Likes Weddings styling the shoot (like in the stylemepretty feature).
i think Richelle Dante's work is rather dreamy, and she starts @ 2k. we emailed her and she responded right away, sadly we needed to get under 2k or i would have hired her.
EEE! I love Stephanie! She is doing our wedding and I'm super excited. I would reccommend looking at the mentoring sessions she does (and posts on her blog) and seeing who those photogs are. Take some time to look at their blogs and see if they're a good fit for you. good luck!

How about lunaphoto? They are based in San Diego and their work has that "dreamy" quality, but still modern and fresh.
