Since board games are a big part of our wedding theme, I want to use it in our seating chart board.  The only way to incorporate games into this is to have a giant Scrabble board to spell out people's table assignments.  Does anyone have an idea how to make a giant DIY Scrabble board?  Or does anyone have other suggestions for a board game themed seating chart board?

    That sounds really hard...

Maybe something like a Monopoly board?  I could see blowing up a big board and putting people's names on the various properties, and then having corresponding table names??

Ha!  I completely meant to mention that we can't play Monopoly together, we get not-so-nice to each other in our "deal making".  So I'm trying to avoid Monopoly in our board game extravaganza.  Don't tell him, but really I swear it's him that gets less than friendly when we play, he always makes deals and alliances against me!  Yell

But that's a cute idea and I really appreciate it!

you could do a different game for each table, or I bet you could find a font that looks like scrabble tiles (or do a chop job cut and paste like crazy) to spell out what you want. Or if you're having a small number of people, you could name the tables after the 'special' tiles (double word score, etc.) or you could just letter your tables using really big scrabble tiles, and put an actual tile of that letter on each escort card...

I don't know how to make a gigantor board, but I think you could definitely work scrabble into the mix!

I really like the idea of doing a game at each table and just having a generalized seating chart that says Monopoloy and lists the names of people at that table, and then Scrabble- and those people, say Trouble! and those people etc. etc.

We're using line drawings of mountain/rock formations in Sedona- I just love creative table naming!

For our table naming I plan to collect a bunch of old Scrabble tiles (I'd love to have enough in P for our monogram - or P, D, E) and gluing them into the shape of table numbers.

Maybe a version of this would be to make each table a different letter of Scrabble tiles...

It would be cute if you could figure out a way to number the tables and then use scrabble tiles to add up the points of the table number.

But I have a feeling some of my guests wouldn't get it...

@Cole B - That is a super cute idea!!!  I think you're probably right about some guests not getting it still, but at least some should!

Haha, Monopoly is not a good plan in our house either, so that's probably why it jumps to mind.  My fiance always thinks my deals are meant to screw him, so we end up with never ending games where he refuses to trade anything!

Hmm... maybe something with "Life" or "Candyland"?  "Clue" could be good if you only had 10 tables, you could just put whoever's sitting at each table in the room they belong in... but I'm not sure that a murder theme is really "wedding-ish"

If you're set on Scrabble I'm trying to think how it could spell out a seating assignment, but can't come up with anything simple to make and easy to figure out.

You could blow up the scrabble board on plywood.posterboard, and make tiles from cardstock or cheap tiles or something, and set up a fake completed game with wedding/love/generally positive oriented words, and then somehow have the name of the person/word score/table relate to eachother??

Like, an escort card showing your "score" and you'd have to find your table name that corresponds to that score?  Sounds like something a few people would NOT have patience for, so keep an answer key handy.

This is hard!!  I'm curious to find out what you go with!

What if you had a little instruction note on the escort card table saying something about adding up the tiles. I can't think of anything cute about love right now though...

    Here's my idea...

instead of making a huge board (which may not turn out right), what if you collected a bunch of scrabble racks and letters and spelled out the table with the letters. THEN you could use seating cards that have a tile drawn on with the number of the corresponding table and their name in pretty calligraphy. I found a bunch of used racks on ebay - although the lot is about to expire - ebay is a great place to find random game pieces

I don't know if I'm articulating this to make sense so here is a god-awful drawing i did in Paint lol

@GaBGal - That's a brilliant idea!  I think that's much more doable than a giant board.  I've bought several packs of tiles from ebay in the last week - I'm loving it!  Thanks a ton!

yay! I'm glad it made sense. I think it could look really elegant spread out on the table.
