Does anyone have a template for a seating chart either in Word or PowerPoint? The trend is to do seating cards, however, I have a small wedding party (50 guests) with two large long tables. Better to do a seating chart so guests can navigate where they are sitting and then plan to put name cards tied with ribbon tied to the back of the chivari chairs. Would love to make this a DIY project. Has anyone else used a seating chart? Not looking to buy expensive seating program just for 50 guests.
www.weddingwire.com has a great one, you do have to input the size of room, size of tables and all guests but then you can drag and drop everything in, and it's free.
this woman makes them, if you go to her portfolio and select seating charts you can get ideas. also she's very good at responding to emails so you can contact her as well - http://www.gourmetinvitations.com/
MsGirard, if you remove the space at the end of the second link that meelahj provided, it should work!
Are you using the seating chart for escort cards (ie, listing who's at one table and who's at the other), or will you actually illustrate which seat everyone's sitting in? If it's the former, you can probably use any program and make a simple list of names (just make sure that the resolution is high enough so that you can take it to Kinko's and have them blow it up). But if you're delineating individual seats on this chart, I would probably use InDesign to make sure that the names line up -- I've found that Word can be tricky when you're trying to make things align perfectly. I think you can download it for a 30-day trial at www.adobe.com.
Also, I think it might be a little difficult to find/use a template because everyone's wedding has a different number of guests, and it looks like most of these charts have custom formatting and spacing based on the number of tables and guests.
I use the one at www.weddingwire.com and love it. It is so easy to use! It has all your guest in a column on the right then you just click and drag the guest to the table you want them at. I like how you pick the type of table and just plug in the number of people at each table. I was able to design the layout for the reception in no time at all. You can also print it out in different sizes.
here's another very simple example that just has a simple list of names. this one is pretty easy and self explantory to make:
you could do multiple framed lists and have them divided by last name which will make it easier for guests than one big board...so you could have A-H, I-Q, R-Z or whatever..

this bride created her own and it was beautiful. she said it was a lot of work but it may be worth it to email her for DIY instructions - http://chimonique.googlepages.com/chimoniqueplanningbio
