I can’t figure out if a seating plan is needed, and I’ve never been to an informal reception like what I’m planning. We are doing a casual reception at a golf club house. We’ll have some food outside and some inside in two different locations. I guess I would call it buffet style, but not formal (we’re going to have stacks of nice plates and silverware near each food table). We’ll be serving a substantial amount of food, but it’s all easy-to-eat stuff (carved meat to make sandwiches, for example).
We’re going to have tables in multiple locations (inside, outside, on the porch). I wasn’t planning to do any kind of seating plan since we want people to eat and wander around the grounds without any restrictions. We’re not following a strict timeline either. But I’m beginning to think it will be chaotic if everyone tries to get food at once. Maybe a seating plan would help. Any advice? Has anyone ever been to a reception like this? Also, do you think calling this setup "cocktails and heavy hors’doerves" instead of "dinner"on the invitation could clue guests in to the atmosphere/food situation? The invitations themselves are pretty casual, but I want to make sure no one gets the wrong idea. Thanks!
