In your case, I would totally get another dress to wear to the more casual reception! I think it;s entirely appropriate, and I would do the same :)
You could probably go a little less tradtional, too, and get something more on the fun side, like a shorter dress and killer heels. Have fun with it!
I am a one-dress bride, and my best friend who got married last May wore 2 dresses. I thought it was rediculous, because she wasn't as comfortable in the 2nd dress, and ended up changing back INTO the first dress. I think she just wanted to have 2. LOL. :)
But for you, 2 dresses seems like a good idea for traveling, and a casual reception. You can probably find a super-cute white bridesmaids dress, or even a white summer-time dress to wear!! Good luck, it sounds like a great option for you!!
For your situation, it seems totally warranted. Especially since the second reception is a bit after the first and with a different crowd.
I was a 2-dress bride and was so happy with my decision! I chose a short flirty dress so I could get out and party (we even had an afterparty at a bar). My only regret was that I missed out on some of the fun while changing clothes. :o(
It sounds like you know you won't be happy during the second reception unless you're wearing something you can move in! I'd start looking for a second dress and there's lots of inexpensive options, like bridesmaid dresses, white formal dresses, etc. Since you don't want a train, it should be fairly simple to find :-)
Thanks to everyone for all of the insight already. The positive feedback is definitely making my decision easier.
I would definitely opt for the second dress if I were you!! It sounds like a shorter, more casual, easier to move in dress would be much more comfortable and fit your second reception better :)

I've noticed a trend recently with brides changing into a second dress for their reception, and at first I thought it was excessive. We're having a second, more casual reception after we get back from our honeymoon for local friends we can't invite to our first reception, and I've been toying around with the idea of buying a second dress for two reasons:
