For those of you who’ve had 2 (or more) kids, what was your weight gain in your subsequent pregnancies compared to that of your first pregnancy? And did it take you longer to lose it the second time around?
Currently pregnant with #2 and just wondering. I gained a 34 pounds last time & have lost it all, but this time I’d like to gain a little less if I could…

I got pregnant when my first baby was 1 year old. I still had 5 extra pounds from that first pregnancy that I wanted to lose.
I gained faster with my second but it eventually slowed down and I gained 5 more pounds that the first time around, still in the healthy, recommended range.
My second baby is turning 1 this year. I vary between being the same as before getting pregnant and 5 pounds over.
I work really hard to maintain that and am trying to lose those last 5 but it’s really difficult. I have to say it’s all in the diet though. I can work out like a crazy person and the pounds won’t move, and then I’ll be crazy about my diet and it will go down. I was doing pretty good until I started a very intense workout program right after vacation – I am now hungry all the time because of the workouts and I don’t have my discipline back in check from the vacation, so it’s kind of a disaster right now!

I’m 22 weeks with #2, so I don’t know exactly how much I will gain this time around but I went ahead and voted that I gained less in second pregnancy. I gained 50 lbs when I was pregnant with my first, and this time around I have only gained around 10-12 lbs. I would have to gain another 40 lbs in the next 18 weeks to gain more than last time and I am determined to make sure that doesn’t happen!

I gained A LOT my first pregnancy, about 60+ lbs. But, it was in part due to pre-eclamsia and being extremely swollen/water weight. It came off super fast, I think a little had to do with being younger (20). My second, I gained around 50 lbs and it took the full 9-10 months to get that weight off. Not going to lie, the weight gain was “over-indulgence weight.” I was 26 when I had my second and ate for 3.
Regardless of the gain, the good news is it all came back off again. It sounds like you had really healthy weight gain with your first. If it is the same second time around, you probably won’t have any issues getting it back off again. The only thing I noticed after the second baby is that my hips have stayed a little wider (not much, but some). I will never be a size 4-6 ever again, but 6-8 has been easy to manage. I gained about the same with both pregnancies. When you are chasing after a toddler it’s good exercise while pregnant, but being more tired can also lead you to choose poorer/quicker foods. So just make an effort to select healthy choices and you should be good :). My daughter is 4 months and I’m down to pre-pregnancy weight.

I gained 40 lbs the first time, and 30lbs with the second. I am prone to some post partum depression so it always takes me a while for it to come off.
