I didn't stay at the resort, I went to a Riu Palace, but there is tons to do in Rivera Maya! My fi & I went on a pretty awesome zipline/canopy tour. We also took a trip to Tulum and fell in love with the ancient ruins! You should check with the resort itself to book excursions. Enjoy!
I stayed at Secrets Silversands, which I think is somewhat close to yours. I would highly recommend Selvatica zipline tours. If you have time the mayan ruins tour with ziplining and snorkling is also a must by Aventuras mayans.
I wrote about it in my thread here.
Have you checked the tripadvisor forums? TA is a great resource, and I never plan anything without doing tons of research there first.
I would recommend renting a car and going to the Tulum ruins. Afterwards, stop at one of the hotel beach restaurants for lunch and drinks. You can also snorkel with sea turtles in nearby Akumal.
We did a cool tour for around $100US/pp with alltournativetours.com We went to the Coba ruins, had lunch in a Mayan village, did a zipline, and some rappelling and kayaking.
If you like snorkeling or scuba diving, Cozumel has some of the greatest diving in the world.
I'd also suggest going into the town of Playa del Carmen for dinner and drinks. They have the famous firedancers at Fusion and Blue Parrot every night around 10 or 11pm.
You could also see the Chichen Itza ruins.
Other things to look into are Xel-Ha, Xcaret, Xplor. There is also a spider monkey reserve somewhere near Akumal that is supposed to be amazing.
There is sooo much to do! Have fun!
We went to Secrets Maroma for our honeymoon. Wow! What an incredible place! It was absolutely gorgeous, the staff was friendly and very attentive, the accomodations were very, very comfortable. I could just go on and on for hours about what a great time we had! It was slightly overcast for a few hours on couple days that were there, so we took advantage of it by spending the afternoon reading a book and dozing off in the hammocks scattered throughout the property. Hammock time = nap time! We went sea kayaking a couple times at the resort--pretty fun.
We took a trip to Isla Mujeres to swim with the dolphins one day. A shuttle took us to Cancun where we caught a boat to the island. We spent the first part of the day doing the dolphin experience and then spent the rest of the day wandering around Garrafon park and snorkeling around their reef (if you're planning to snorkel, I recommend going to a sporting goods store and picking up your own mask, fins, and snorkel).
Here are a couple pics from our honeymoon. The first one shows my view for most of the trip: my knees, my drink, white sand, and turquoise water. The second one shows one of the beaches at Garrafon on Isla Mujeres along with a couple of the zipline towers over the water.
A couple of our agents stayed there last August and loved it. And we're tough to please! You can see some photos on our Facebook page.
I have a pretty biased opinion, but I would recommend that you use an agent who has been there, and has completed the Secrets Resorts Master program. They will know the most about the resort, and should have access to current specials and promos for the resort.
We just got back from our weddingmoon at Secrets Maroma Beach. 10 days in absolute paradise. I haven't posted my review yet, but the place was fabulous. We wil definitely be returning. Our wedding day was perfect and I can't say enough about the hotel, the food and the staff! I'd be happy to answer any questions.
Ablet! I am giong here at the end of August and I am SO EXCITED! I actually stayed at the resort directly next door with my family 2 years ago while they were building Secrets and absolutely knew then I would be back for my honeymoon--- and it wasnt even done yet!! The beach was incredible and i have been around the Caribbean.. There's a reason why Maroma Beach constantly makes the top 10 beaches of the world list.
If you are wondering about the type of person that would pick this place I can tell you I typically have an over the top taste for luxury and exclusivity. Although this resort isnt the 10 guest room place I once thought I would be booking, it is so much more. I cant wait to get there!
Ahhh on our honeymoon in Nov we are going to Riviera Maya also!! ;)

We are planning our November honeymoon to this resort...all the reviews look excellent!
Just wondering if anyone has been there and has any tips on what to see and do, where to book for the best deal, etc.
I am sooooo excited!!!
Thanks!
