My Fiance and I aren’t religious, although we were both raised Christians. My family really wants us to have the wedding in a church but considering I only go to church on Christmas and maybe Easter, and my FI never goes at all, to me, that feels kind of hypocritical.
I’m having a really hard time figuring out a location to have it other than a church! It seems like all the secular ceremonies you see are either outdoors, or on site at the reception venue in a seperate room. Well my venue doesn’t have a room that will work and it tends to rain 1/3 days in August where I’m from, so outdoors feels impractical too. Anyone have any ideas of other locations for a secular ceremony??

@thunderberry: Library, museum, zoo, garden club, etc… It really depends on where you and what your budget is.

you might have to keep looking for a different venue or if you are set on that venue. can they have the ceremony and reception in the larger room, cocktail hour in the lobby or something and use that time to set up?
i am jewish and having a jewish wedding. our venue offers 2 separate rooms to have the ceremony and reception.

I would try and find a place that has some meaning to you and your Fiance if possible. I’ve seen weddings done in museums, libraries, schools, etc. Here people often have ceremonies in the state capitol building. I’ve also seen people rent out rooms in historical homes that are ornate and beautiful.
Here’s a couple inspiration pictures for you:

@beachbride1216: We live in an area that doesn’t have a lot of stuff like garden clubs, zoos etc unfortunately. But I like the idea of a museum, I’m going to look into that!
@ajillity81: Sadly moving to another venue isn’t a possibility. It took us FOREVER to find one that could accommodate our group and that wasn’t just a typical hotel type place. Our area just has a serious lack of wedding venues, I get so jealous when I see the options on the bee! The place is actually a barn so there isn’t a lobby to send everyone to! if it’s a nice day we can have cocktail hour in the patio that’s out back… but if it’s a nice day then having an outdoor ceremony is fine too 🙂
@Ms_Purple: I definitely agree on trying to find somewhere that has some meaning to us. I love the inspiration pics, so gorgeous!

Fiance and I felt the same way. We (I, lol) decided on one of our local auditoriums. This particular building has an incredibly beautiful room on the 3rd floor that is used for wedding ceremonies and other smaller events. It also worked out well for us because the room almost has a chapel-like feel to it that will make the more religious members of the family happy. Sometimes its good to think outside the box! I also love the musem idea! Here are some pics from our venue! Only 32 days to go!

@pixiestix6089: Wow, what a beautiful location, I love it!! You’re right it definitely has a chapel feel without feeling too much like it’s just a fake church :).

@pixiestix6089: that is gorgeous! I would love to find something like that around here.. your ceremony will be beautiful.
@thunderberry: I’m in a similar situation, so I’m not much help. But if I think of anything, I’ll pass it on.

Could you rent a tent and have the ceremony or cocktail hour under the tent outside your venue?
