Do you have one? Did you come already installed with your house? Did you have to add one?
Our “almost” house doesn’t have one and I would like to get one installed. It will make me feel safer when FI is not around (not that we live in a bad neighborhood or anything).
I wonder how much work is involved with getting one installed? How much money?

Hmm I honestly don’t know as we built our home and had it installed during the process. I love ours and highly recommend them. Definetly get ones that have the smoke detectors built in; we live far out in the country and are very secluded. So if we weren’t home no one would know until it was fully engulfed.

When we bought our house, it was pre-wired for an alarm system so it made the installation a lot quicker. But typically installation takes about a day. Ours pre-wired took about 3 hours. We went with ADT They’re a really good company and they provide you with a ton of different price points and options, which I really like. Having a security system also took off 20% on our home insurance. We have the second highest option. it included two doors, two keypads, two motion sensors, a fire alarm, and a carbon monoixde alarm. Installation was costly. 700$ and its 45$/monthly. If we ever moved to a new house they would move our system to our new house free of charge. Theres two quick help buttons on the keypads too one for the police and the other for firedepartment I think they’re silent alarms.
Not sure if they have them in the states but theres a company call ADX (or APX) i think… They seem pretty cool.. you can monitor your system through your smartphone! so like while your on vacation and such .. pretty neat option.

@shiney:I didn’t realize that it could save like 20% on your homeowner’s insurance…wow!
I’ve been looking at the new wireless ones, so installation would be easier, but I don’t know…hmmm…
