Okay, I’m about 85% sold on the idea of having a dress made. I’ve seen (what feels like) a lot of positive reviews of Jeff Liu around WB, and his dress shop looks relatively reputable compared to most of the replica sellers online. 🙂
What I’m wondering is this: if I have a certain style of dress or details about a dress that I really like, but that dress is NOT on his site, can I ask him to make it for me anyway? Or does he only do the dresses on his site?
Secondly, if you’ve done that (shown him a dress not on the site and had him make it), how did it come out?
Thirdly, for anyone who has worked with Jeff Liu, what kinds of fabric does he work with? I see a lot of chiffon and lace listed on the site, but am hoping for a silk satin myself. I live in China and spend a lot of time in fabric markets (as a hobby….) and have never seen heavier satin fabrics anywhere – but would prefer to have them used for my dress, as the heavier satin dresses I tried on covered many more flaws (ahem, my TUMMY) than the thinner, clingier fabrics.
Thanks for your help, ladies!

Hopefully this gets to you in time. I’ve read NOTHING but wonderful reviews of Jeff Liu. There has been 1 or 2 bad reviews, but some people are super hard to please.
I’m probably going to order from him, honestly. He quoted me a GREAT price, and I’ve asked him to send fabric samples. He hasn’t responded yet, but if I like the fabric, I can’t wait to order it from him.

@MrsEng: Thanks for your reply! I actually went ahead and ordered through Jeff Liu and was THRILLED with my experience and my dress!
Good luck with yours 🙂

Did you wind up having him do something custom after all and was it a replica of something else or did you have particular changes? If you have pictures I would love to see them. I am thinking about getting a custom dress as I cannot find the dress I want anywhere (atleast not with the hemline I want). I was thinking of ordering through Jeff Liu but wasn’t sure if he was flexible on the customization or if he simply replicated other dresses. Any suggestion on your experience would really be helpful!

hi! i’m in the process of working out the details for him to make my dress. it’s Alfred Angelo style 829. so far, i’ve sent him pictures and details on how i would like the dress. he quoted a great price so i’m really excited! i don’t know how it would be to ask him to make a dress without pictures but i think i read somewhere that he can combine features from different dresses into your dress. i would recommend sending some pics of the features you want. i’ve also asked him to send pics before shipping it to me. will keep you posted!!

Does anyone have an Ebay Link for his store? I can’t find a thing on him and would love to see his work since I’ve only ever heard good things about him! 🙂

I got my dress from Jeff Liu! It fits perfect! The only thing that’s different are the embellishments and the designs but no one will know. Send him lots of pics of what you want and make sure you go to someone who actually knows how to measure for bridal gowns. He replies to emails real quick. And it only took like 6 weeks to get to me! Don’t forget your shoes and undergarments for the measurements 🙂 Oh! Also, if you’re even THINKING about adding to the dress or anything like a matching embellished sash or lace overlay or what ever, be sure to go ahead and have him do it b/c it may be hard to find the right color. There are sooo many shades of whites and ivory! You’re not going to want to drag your dress from place to place just to try and match the colors.
The original Alfred Angelo dress
My replica from Jeff Liu 🙂 I had him add the sash detail because I felt like it was missing something and I’m glad I did! And I made sure that he made the bow detachable b/c i wasn’t really feeling it in the store.
What do you guys think??

WOW!! Your dress is gorgeous!!! I can’t believe he did the beading sooo beautifully!!! I just emailed Jeff Liu for a quote on my dress, it has heavy beading in the bodice and skirt so I’m really hoping and praying he can do it.
@MrsEng: Good idea on ordering fabric samples, I think I will do that as well.
@HaSoFly: Did you ask for matte satin or the original? How does the fabric feel? How fast did he get it to you?

@LadySapphire: I didn’t ask for a specific satin. My concern was the color. Didn’t want it too white but didn’t want it too yellow either. The fabric feels nice. It’s not as soft as the original but it’s not heavy either. Even if someone touched it, they wouldn’t know anything. You’ll only notice if you feel it side-by-side. He got it to me in less than 6 weeks. It came in a little 2 x 1.5 ft. envelope inside out. So if you get in something like this, don’t freak out 🙂
