I used Thomas Paul Photography...loved them..based out of LI, but they do travel..they did my wedding in the city..
I used Ryan Brenizer for photography and Carol Moore of A Starry Night for my DJ. Loved them both!
I am using a Starry Night DJ - they were recommended to me. My photographer is in NJ - she is called DMDC Photography.

She's a little photoshoppy but they said they can tone that down if we want them to. I love the drama in her photos. For our price point, she seemed to capture poignancy the best. Our wedding is in three weeks so I can't report back yet.
I used elisabeth millay (http://www.elisabethmillayblog.com/) and thought she was wonderful. She does not do a lot of "posed" pictures, but was able to capture great moments. I highly recommend!
I've been searching through the vendors database on apracticalwedding.com. They prescreen all their vendors.
I used Corey Torpie Photography. She is AMAZING!!! She does really well with candids... is very easy on the wallet, just got engaged herself (so she is more psyched than ever about weddings) and has no time limit or shot count. She showed up at the salon at 10:00 and didn't leave until my wedding was over at 10:00pm. She got all of the shots I wanted PLUS more amazing ones (even made the formals look great which are usually so boring!) and I felt like I never even saw her on the day of... she wasn't in the way or ever blocking anyone's view of the action.
I highly recommend you check out her website and her PRICES especially. I think she was my favorite wedding purchase!!

but who actually told me to check out these other photographers
I highly recommend Sasha Chou. She is a fashion/ wedding photorapher. My friend used her for the engagement shoot. Friendly and professional. I am not sure about the price though. But I heard it's very reasonable. She can catch candid moments as well as editorial feel.
