I thought I would finally post something on this great community, I have been a reader for years but held off joining until the time was right (getting engaged.) My S.O and I have been dating for 3 years now, we started out fast because we moved across the country together right after our 1 year-for career reasons. We have been each other’s support system, since all of our family and friends live thousands of miles away from us. It truly was a “make or break” situation and we made it! Since then we have meet new friends and have a great life in our new home and side of the country. We have recently decided that it was “almost” time to move on to the next chapter of our lives together and we began the process of ring shopping. We decided to go through a jeweller and have my ring made exactly how I want it. We just purchased the most beautiful oval diamond and are now in the process of designing the setting! Once it is made my S.O plans to keep it hidden and propose to me at a later date so he can still keep that element of surprise. This just worked for us since he wanted the traditional surprise proposal but also wanted to make sure the ring was exactly what I dreamed it would be. I guess I wanted to just introduce myself and see if any other Bee’s were part of the ring selection and then had to wait for their S.O to pop the question?

@little_lamb: The same thing happened to me! We picked the ring together (he was fine with whatever I wanted), and then 6 months later he proposed with it. And welcome!

@little_lamb: I’m in the same boat. Although, I’ve just found out my FI is taking me away at the end of the month for a few days!! So I’ve got a sneaking suspicion… I can barely contain my excitement, which is awesome because I assumed because I’ve been so involved the surprise wouldn’t be so ‘surprise-like’.
Good luck! Its so exciting to go through the process this way, in my opinion!

We did almost the same thing bedsides moving across the earth together. We picked out the rings together and now I’m just waiting on the surprise proposal!!!

Yeah. We picked it out together & I got it about 6 weeks later. So you know it’s going to come sooner than later most likely.

@little_lamb: I posted this in your other thread, but it looks like this is the one that’s taking off, so I’ll post in here as well:
Welcome! Super exciting that your ring is being made!
FI and I designed my ring together, and then I had to wait! I told him he could keep me in the dark once we approved the ring design if he wanted. He didn’t tell me when the ring was shipped to our apartment, which showed me he wanted to surprise me in some way. I figured out it was delivered, but he still thinks he was sneaky lol (and I’ll let him continue thinking that). Fortunately I only had to wait 9 days after it was delivered before he proposed. It was a very long 9 days though!

Thanks lovely ladies! I know I created two threads by accident (I have now removed the other one) I am learning-I hope to be a pro on this site in now time ha-ha. Thanks for all your replies! It’s great to hear from other women that had similar stories. It does not feel real yet and I am keeping this process secret from all my friends and family (which is killing me!) deep down inside I still want the element of surprise and I want to preserve that for my family as well. So I will wait to share the news when its official and the ring is placed on my finger! For now I am just having fun working with the jeweller- @kayla your right, it’s a really exciting process to go through together!

Yay exciting! Same for FI and I. We picked the ring last July and he propsed 3 months later.

welcome! yay we’re doing the same thing; we picked it in April and now he’s paying on it. So we’ll see when he actually proposes; I know he’s trying to still surprise me somehow 🙂 can’t wait!
ETA: I picked an oval too, can’t wait to see yours!

We did that! Picked the ring in late July, took 2 weeks for it to come in, and he proposed 2 weeks later at the end of August. I badgered him EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Welcome to the Bee!
I was the one who essentially chose my rings. I knew when my now FI asked my parents for their blessing and that he was planning on proposing during our trip to Vegas. I had an idea which day as well, which was great because I made sure I had my nails done lol. It took nothing away from how wonderful his proposal was.

@little_lamb: Welcome to the Bee!
My situation was similar to yours. We selected a ring together, and I had to wait for it (both because it was a Tacori so it had to be made and because he wanted to at least have some element of surprise in the proposal). My fiance and I had been together for almost 5.5 years when he proposed, though. He proposed about 2 months after we ordered the ring.
I’ve never once felt like my proposal was less special. I know that some ladies might worry that choosing a ring together will somehow take away from that moment, but it really didn’t. (In all fairness, I’d seen the center diamond and the setting, but I hadn’t actually seen them together since the setting I tried on was actually originally for a round stone and I chose an emerald cut diamond … But still.)
You’ll have to keep us updated. I can’t wait to see your beautiful ring! I love ovals!

That’s exactly what my FI did. Our ring was custom made and it was like a month and a half before FI proposed and gave it to me! It drove me NUTS wondering where the ring was and when I’d get it and how he would propose!
