I’ve been trying to find a good one, too. Looking forward to recommendations….

Hi!  I am naturally super-pale (transluscent, my Fi says), so I’ve had quite a bit of experience with self tanners.  I am a HUGE fan of the L’oreal Sublime Bronze self-tanner towellettes  — I use them for both body and face and have never had any problems with breakouts (and I have VERY sensitive skin!). I also really like Khiels’s self-tanner, again for both body and face.  both of these are very natural looking, easy to put on at night and wake up "tan" (my FI will jokingly ask, "Was it sunny last night?" the next morning)

Both are available year-round online:  L’oreal self-tanner is available on drugstore.com (which has free shipping for orders over $25 — including beauty.com!) and the Khiel’s is available on the Khiel’s website and department store websites (which often have free shipping promotions).

@chicagom: how about the "scent" quality of those two products? Sometimes it’s hard to find one that doesn’t leave you with that weird smell for a day…

Ah, the "scent"… well, like pretty much any self-tanner that will give you noticable, streaak-free results in a day or less, yes, they both a have a slight scent.  Not as bad as some others adn not really all that strong.  Also, I’ve noticed though that if I put it only on my face, no scent.  If all over my body, then it is more noticable.  The best bet is to apply self-tanner in the evening (I’ll sometimes take an early shower about an hour before going to bed and then apply), then shower in the  morning — Voila!  color without the "scent"!

I’ve found that using these two self-tanners at home is much more natural looking than a spray tan for me (easier to control how much I use/how much color), much easier to fit into my routine, and MUCH less expensive.   For example, if I just want some color in my face but don’t really want to look "tan", I’ll use the L’oreal towl very sparingly on my face, or use it on another part of my body first and my face last (less self-tanner is left on the towel by then).

Another bonus — the L’oreal product comes individually-wrapped, so it is perfect for travelling.  I keep a couple in my carry-on suitcase at all times — GREAT for travelling to a wedding or event — I just apply the night/morning of the event and by the next morning/evening I have nice even color.  (I totally plan to take somr on my honeymoon!)

I too am a big fan of the Sublime Bronze line … I’ve never used the towelettes (though I sure will next time I travel!) but I’ve used the face/body lotion on my face (with no breakouts) and the spray for body. I’ve always had good results but the smell can be a little odd … I would definitely second chicagom’s suggestion about doing it at night (after a quick shower/exfoliation session) so you can shower again in the morning. I’ve also tried the Neutrogena Micro Mist spray and it had the same scent issue. If you have to do it in the morning, I would recommend a little perfume — and wear clothes made from natural fiber, not synthetics. I read that somewhere and for some reason it does help.

I have used Jergens Face.  I like the results but am not fond of the smell (or the smell of any self tanner for that matter).  So, I usually use it at night knowing that I will wash up in the morning.  FI thinks it smells weird too : )

I have used L’Oreal Sublime Bronze as well as Lancome – I think I actually liked the L’Oreal better, and it was cheaper! I haven’t used it in a while but I know they have it at Target usually.

I have pretty senstitive skin, so I have been hesitant to try self-tanner for my face, because I was afraid of the results.  My sister usees the Olay Regenerist Touch of Sun, which she likes.  It doesn’t give immediate results, though, it takes a few days for the color to show up.

Another option is always bronzer.  I self-tan my body, but often uses a bronzer on my face, so that it doesn’t break out or look weird with the tan. 🙂

The problem I always have had with self-tanners on my face is that I exfoliate and have used benzoyl peroxide, which sloughs of your skin and bleaches it! So it has been easier to just use bronzer for me.

I’m a reformed tanorexic.  My skin is pale white with freckles and red undertones.  I gave up tanning two years ago for my now fiance.  I’ve tried EVERY sunless tanning product under the sun.  My all time favorite is an airbrush tan using California Tan products.  However if you are just looking for facial self-tanner, try AuCourant.  Rumor is that AuCourant was used on Baywatch 🙂  You can buy it online at http://www.aucourant.com.  I *LOVE* it.  Very natural and streak-free.  They also have a body lotion and mousse that are great, too.  Good luck!!
