A question for all you married and 2-dress bees: how many of you ended up selling your dress after the big day? Did anyone use a consignment shop?
We’re moving to a different country and I really don’t want to bring my dress with me, so even though the wedding is 2 weeks away, I’ve already put my dress up on various sites hoping to get some interest (moving day is 3 days after the wedding so we need to have everything sold and packed by wedding day). The only place that’s contacted me so far is a consignment shop. Has anyone sold their dress through such a place? What was your experience with it?
Thanks so much!

Normally, you can’t sell your dress to a consignment shop. They sell it for you and retain a percentage of the sale price. I have sold a lot of clothes through consignment shops and none of them bought any garments outright.

@julies1949: Oh, yes. Sorry. I guess I worded that wrong. What I should have said is “sell it through a consignment shop” 🙂

I’m actually curious about this, too. What percentage do you usually get back from the dress? And how much does the consignment shop take? Do they wait to pay you fully until they sell it?

The one near me takes 50%. Some do a gradual percentage, the longer it takes to sell.
