I have sold gold before.  I would go to a few different places to compare prices.  You should do this on the same day so the rates are the same for all. The payout can vary greatly place to place.

I sold a broken gold chain to Express Gold Cash a few years ago. I believe I went on their website and they sent me a free envelope. I sent them the chain in the prepaid envelope and they contacted me somehow and told me what they’d give me for the chain and I okayed it and they deposited $95 into my bank account. It was a 14″ braided gold chain, about 1/4″ thick. I was psyched to get that much for it. If they’re still around, I recommend Exoress Gold Cash.

Yup! I just checked and they are still around and they have an A+ on the Better Business Bureau website. I would paste their website but I can’t copy and paste on my Nook Tablet.

I sold my old wedding ring set on kijiji… I could sell it for more than a gold place or a pawn shop. It did take around 4 months though.

My bf bought his old wedding band from Birks, and they did a trade thing. He actually got a decent amount back for it.

@MLDoddie:  It’s a regional website, like craigslist but I find it to be a lot better. I’ve sold tons of stuff on there and bought stuff there too.

FYI, kijiji is now ebay classifieds.Which is a shame; I had more luck finding good stuff on kijiji than I do now.

I sold a bunch of old gold pieces to a gold/pawn place. I guesstimated the weight before hand so I knew how much I should get and it was near that number (google gold rate so you can get an idea). One thing to note, those places will not value anything about the jewelry itself — craftmanship etc., just the weight of the gold. They also offered me like 50 cents for the couple of silver pieces I have which wasn’t worth it…
