….I sent in my application for radiation therapy school last night!!!
In case you’re just checking in, I wanted to go to Physician Assistant school but have no health care experience (HCE) and I wasn’t willing to go backwards (this is a 12 month second bachelors program). I needed something that wasn’t a drastic pay cut and something that could be a career if I liked it enough to stay or could be a solid stepping stone into other programs.
If I get accepted, I start THIS August
Send some good thoughts my way! I got the impression the director’s mildly concerned that, being an engineer, I’m not as social or as much of a people-person as they like their therapy students to be. I’m hoping my essay quelled that fear. That and anybody who knows me IRL knows that’s just silliness

Oooh good luck!!! Iwill be thinking happy thoughts for you! When do you find out??

Good luck!! And if you mentioned your hobby they should know that you have to be a pretty social person to do it, you know?

@crebre, shoot, I didn’t mention that! I focused my essay on why I want to change careers and tried to emphasize the whole “i want to work with people” thing. Darling Husband said it read a little desperate (I think it should, though…), yet editorial-like so it didn’t scream “i’m an engineer who doesn’t write well” like most tend to.
Oye. Not sure when I’ll find out. They told me once they get all my application material, they’ll have a pow-wow and decide if I get in.

good luck to you girl!! I want to make a career change soon..I am not quite sure what towards….all I know is that lab life isn’t me in the long run….I would much rather prefer working with people…the tricky part right now is figuring out how to do while still being able to support myself.

I’m sending lots of good thoughts! I totally understand what you’re going through because I just did this with my PhD program–the waiting SUCKS! But you’ve done everything you can, and you just have to remind yourself that they’d be CRAZY not to accept you! Lots of luck!! 😀

Is there a personal interview once they narrow it down? That’s where you’ll score the most points. Be confident, well groomed, and poised and you’ll do great. Good luck!

@smyley, I thought i would have an interview, but they didn’t mention it when I talked to them about “so how does this work?”. Probably because I went on campus to discuss the program with them, in person. However, it was more of a “let me give you a spiel about the program” versus me doing any of the talking. But I’ve talked to one of the ladies a lot on the phone and we’ve gotten chatty a few times; I think i’m ok.
Plus they want my money, right?!??!! haha.
