We're thinking of sending them out as Christmas cards/STD's. This is just the 1st round though - mostly family & close friends and people who will be traveling far. We're doing it in waves so that we don't get stuck & aren't able to cut the guest list.
We probably won't send them out until well after Christmas. Ours is a pretty small wedding, though, so fewer people to notify! I think 6-8 months before is definitely the right time period for us.
They're done and going out with our holiday cards. Mostly because I'm too cheap to pay for postage twice :)
We are handing them out during all the Christmas celebrations to save on postage and confirm addresses. A lot of our families have moved in the past few years and we don't have a current address for about half of our list.
One of my fiance's friends is taking our engagement pictures in March, so I won't be sending out save the dates until April. However, most of the guests are local, and the ones who will have to travel are all really good friends who already know our wedding date already.
we're planning to send them out most likely in the beginning of February..wow, that's gonna come sooo fast!!
I wasn't planning on sending them until about March, but as it turns out hotels in the area are a bit limited so now I'm conflicted...
We already sent ours out at the beginning of November! We have about 90% of the guest list from OOT and we wanted to beat the holiday rush!
We're sending ours out as soon as the FI *coughs in his general direction* finishes addressing the outsides already! ;P Heh. We want to get ours out before the holiday rush and, because we slipped our STD magnets and accompanying greetings inside Christmas cards, they need to get out before Christmas. (We're going for the "Happy Holidays and We're getting Married!" 'hot' look of the season. lol) Almost all of our guests, save Maybe 20 out of 130!, are out of towners. A good sized handful are even out of the country-ers. So we (well, mostly I) feel that it's best to give everyone a heads up about making travel and vacation plans. (Especially since our wedding is a Friday and the Friday before a major US holiday to boot!)
We sent ours at the beginning of November because we are having a Labor Day Weekend wedding.
Our wedding is in Pittsburgh, but it's basically a destination wedding for almost everyone, so we're shooting for February.
Ours went out in mid-October. There are a couple other people in the family getting married and we wanted to make sure our date got saved first! :)
We're shooting for end of Jan beginning of Feb. Getting everyone's address is a huge pain.
I really wanted to send mine out early Nov but it didn't work out that way :( so now I'm going to wait till the holidays are over and try to get them out mid Jan
I voted for May. Even though I am not doing save the dates. I'm getting married on the 4th, So I'm just sending out the invites early to save money. They're so expensive!
We're doing our STDs as though it were a destination wedding because for 95% of our guests it is.
Just FYI you can get pretty awesome picture postcard STDs from Walmart for cheap.
We are sending our save the dates out with our holiday cards hopefully next week! We are getting married on the 5th, which is Labor Day weekend, so I wanted to send them out pretty early!
I sent mine 2 months ago. We have a lot of out of towners and it's a holiday weekend.
Stupid question but what does OOT stand for?
I'm an August 2010- but I'm sending mine out in January. I would suggest Jan-March time frame :o)
End of January- we have lots of out-of-town guests and want everyone to have plenty of time to make travel plans!
we're sending ours in Jan, but we have a lot of out of town guests to give heads up to.
You ladies are really on top of this! We're getting married Labor Day weekend and have not yet done our STD! The fiance (an animator) is working on an animated STD for our wedding website. We've been telling anyone who asks about our date and location, so the word is spreading informally.
My FI and I stuffed and addressed 95% of our STDs the other day! Just waiting on a few more address (from his side), then hopefully will send them out over the weekend!! They are sooo cute (and cheap!!!) from Snapfish!!
we're sending ours at the end of this month (january). we created postcards from zazzle.com and just ordered them, so as soon as we get them, they're going out. we're getting married in chicago, but other than our local friends, everyone else has to travel to get here. the sooner the better, i think. :)
Mid-March is the goal. Invites in.... late-June early-July (wedding is last weekend of Sept.)
We sent out save the date postcards Jan 28 for our September 11 wedding. Eighty percent of our 80 person guest list is from out-of-state or out of country, so we want to make sure everyone can start watching the flight deals and make their travel plans.
ideally ours would have gone out in january... but we had to wait until we were actually engaged! (that happened yesterday!!!) so, our deadline is by the end of this month. fortunately, i found out my mother had slipped the word to our out-of-town relatives that there'd be a labor day weekend wedding to attend.
I sent mine out in the end of January. Just because we have a bunch of people on our guest list from Europe. We wanted to give them ample time to make travel arrangements.
What happens if you don't send STDs? We're still working on the invite list . . .
