This board has been quiet for a while...where are all the September brides at? Come out and say hi!

How bout we all talk about our wedding plans so far?

On my list to do right now is start making napkins! I've bought some fabric so each table will have a different colour/pattern of fabric. I'm hoping it looks sweet and not like a bunch of patterns threw up everywhere ;)

We've gotten a lot of the big stuff out of the way - we've chosen a venue (ceremony and reception at the same place), wedding party, officiant, dress, photographer, and DJ; and our caterer, rental companies for linens/tent/lights, and florist come with the venue. My bridesmaids have been told "Find a knee-length purple dress and silver shoes", and his dudes will be in grey, but the specifics are up to my fiance. Our save-the-dates went out with our holiday cards - good lord, getting all of those addresses was a pain! I won invitations from For The Modern Bride, so I'm working with a designer to get those finished. Next up will likely be choosing a bakery (Yay for cake tastings!) and figuring out our menu with our caterer.

I think the napkins will look lovely, especially if there's some sort of unifying color scheme. I considered doing something like that, but then I remembered that I'm really lazy when it comes to DIY stuff :)

Ooh, I love your colours! I want the my FI to wear grey too. I wish we were having a bakery cake - I'm missing out on the cake tasting experience!

We're doing a tent too - what kind of lights are you putting in it?

Hi!  I haven't done much planning during the holidays, but here's what's done so far -

    • ceremony/reception venue booked
    • officiant booked, we have started reviewing ceremony possibilities she gave us
    • my dress ordered
    • invitation suite picked (but not ordered)

Here's what's up next for us in Jan -

    • reserve hotel block
    • pick & book a photographer
    • work on wedding website
    • work on ceremony with officiant
    • order STDs and finish compiling addresses

    Then in Feb/March -

    • finish wedding website
    • Register
    • send STDs
    • figure out cake/florist
    • finalize menu

I'm planning a smaller wedding for about 40 guests.

@KikiD - Don't feel shamed! Booking a venue was, by far, the biggest pain in our planning so far. Especially since you can't really do anything at all until you have the where and when. Once the holidays are over, I'm sure you'll have more time to get stuff done.

@toothfairyb - I have no idea what we're doing for lighting - I think we'll end up going with whatever the "default" lighting option is. Although I have been intrigued by some of the lantern-ish options some of the bees have posted :)

Hi girls! 9 months left till our day!!!! :)

I feel like we are slowly falling behind!!!! We are going to try to get our e-pics (bout time!) done within the next week, then STD made and mailed.

So far we have our ceremony/reception site picked and down paid * dress is here, needs alterations though * BM dresses picked * My shoes just came!!!! * and that is about it!

I keep putting stuff off, and before I know it, we'll be out of time! So trying to hit the planning hard this month, especially before school starts again in 2 weeks. ugh!

We are SO far behind! *sigh* Or i ought to say I am so far behind. Ain't like the boy is helping me out much! So far I have:

    • Booked reception hall and ceremony church
    • booked officiant (who's written the wedding already!)
    • purchased my dress (yay! Woot! woot!)
    • Sent out STDs
    • got almost all the centerpieces together (just need to decide on table numbers)
    • bought the plates
    • gotten most of the props for our fauxtobooth
    • booked the photog (a friend)
    • decided on the flowers (mixture of fake, wild flowers from a friend's parent's farm, and grocery store flowers)
    • bought both our wedding bands

In the next week I need to make appointments to book:

    • the caterer (they've been impossible to get ahold of over the holidays!)
    • the DJ
    • the bakery (pies, cookies, and cake!)
    • the honeymoon (just gotta book the campground)

    Things left to do:

    • get BM dresses
    • decide on FI and GM's suits
    • work on invites
    • figure out how we're doing the map inserts
    • FIND COBALT/SAPPHIRE BLUE SHOES FOR ME!!!!!!
    • every DIY thing on the planet plus two *sigh*

If I had posted this comment a week ago I wouldn't have had anything besides a venue... But thanks to a very busy week between the holidays I am now the proud customer of a list of vendors!!

    • booked ceremony site and reception hall
    • booked photog (a friend of FI)
    • booked baker
    • booked florist
    • booked DJ
    • purchased my dress (sweet!)
    • narrowed down the bridesmaid dresses to two (I swear I've almost made a decision)
    • delegated wedding website to FI (and he's even started it already, what a guy)
    • decided on centerpieces and have begun making coffee filter roses
    • finalized guest list with parents
    • ordered my wedding band

    January to do:

    • book officiant (I suppose it would help to have someone to do the deed on the big day)
    • save the dates
    • engagement pictures
    • join a gym (these flabby arms just won't do with my awesome dress!)
    • finalize catering decision (venue or outside caterer)
    • continue the endless project that is coffee filter roses

As you all know the to-do list could go on and on... but I'm determined to fit in all the DIY, and keep the week of the wedding as stress free as possible.  It could totally work, right? :-p

    Hey Ladies -

    So far we have:

    • Booked photographer
    • Booked florist
    • Booked venue
    • Booked DJ
    • Selected outfits for our bridal parties (gray chiffon dresses and fuschia shoes for girls, any black suit and pink and gray striped ties for guys)
    • Registered (ONLINE!  Cha-ching!)
    • Designed STDs

    For January:

    • Finished wedding website (which is my fiance's job in all this wedding planning business)
    • Try on wedding dresses (Is it awful to say that I am looking forward to this least?)
    • Tasting with our caterer and hopefully booking them
    • Order STDs
    • Slowly but surely work on decor and paper goods

I am way too lazy to bust out a ton of DIY, but I do have 1 or 2 small things planned to personalize the wedding to at least trick people into thinking I busted my butt DIYing :)

Everyone is doing so well so far!

Geez you ladies are putting me to shame...I feel like I am majorly slacking in every department:

    Done so far

    • Secure Wedding Ceremony/Reception Venue
    • Choose a photographer (still need to finalize contract by end of month)
    • Choose a caterer (still need to finalize contract this month)
    • Choose a color scheme
    • Find a wedding dress (money down, ordered this month)
    • Engagement Photos
    • Select bridal party
    • Design Save the Date's (still need to print)
    • Finalize guest list
    • Collect Addresses (still need a few)
    • Find bridesmaids dresses (mostly done still need to finalize)
    • Bought one of my wedding bands (will have a second ordered soon)
    • Designed wedding website (still need to edit and add something

    Still need to do:

    • Decide on a florist
    • Finalize catering menu
    • Setup transportation
    • Book a hotel and secure rooms for guests
    • Find an officiant
    • Setup a wedding registry
    • Send out “save the dates”
    • Design Invitations
    • Select band or DJ
    • Figure out DIY projects (centerpieces, table numbers, etc..)
    • Find a wedding cake
    • Plan our honeymoon
    • Have FI's band designed and made

I feel like I am already running out of time (why does it have to go by so darn fast!?!)

I wish I could just pause and get everything done in one day....or I wish I wasn't plagued with the procrastination bug.

I was just having a conversation with my FI about how behind I feel, but lets see my list:

    What I have done:

    • Date picked!!
    • Venue Booked--which has tables chairs, dishes, linens for reception
    • Catering--provided by wedding venue
    • Officiant is Booked--our friend!!!
    • Color scheme/theme
    • Photographer
    • Save the Dates ordered, stuffed and waiting to be mailed!
    • Bridal Party
    • My Dress, shoes, jewerly and undergarments!
    • Wedding Website
    • Fi's and GM tuxs

What I still need to do!

    • Decide on Florist
    • Decide on Baker
    • Decide on DJ
    • Pick out invitations
    • Decide on BM dress(Nordstroms dress vs After 6 dress)
    • Get Favors
    • Get chairs for ceremony
    • Transportation
    • Hotel Block
    • Honeymoon
    • Wedding bands

After looking at my "accomplished" list and seeing what everyone else has done, I think I'm doing ok!!  I have a slow week at work so hopefully I will be able to get a few things done! I just have to stay on track since the FI convinced me that it would be a great time to start looking for a house!!

hey september brides! it really is confusing to know what to do and when to do it. i've seen several "check lists" and some say i'm like a month behind and others say i'm like three months ahead. who knows... anyway, here's what i have done so far:

    * officiant (friend of FI)
    * venue and ceremony site (same place)
    * ordered my dress, but haven't picked it up yet.
    * photographer
    * dj and lighting (6 purple uplights)
    * caterer - comes with the venue, but we won't choose a menu until april
    * engagement pictures (done by a photographer friend)
    * ordered save the dates, and collected all but one address
    * personal training (but is it doing any good just yet, is the real question. haha)
    * cake topper
    * various candles
    * wedding website done
    * hotel room blocks secured

    up next:

    * mail save the dates
    * going shopping for bridesmaids dresses this weekend
    * meetings with florists
    * cake
    * table linens

ok, writing it all out makes me feel like things are a little more under control than i thought. :)

We're Sunday the 5th!! So far we've booked:

    • Venue (cake is incl. & it's a hotel so the rooms are blocked)
    • Church (need to book priest who moved from when I was a kid cuz I can't stand our Msgr.)
    • Photographer
    • My ring (need his still)
    • The chocolate fountains
    • I love the florist (we have centerpieces but he said I have to get BM dresses before we talk bouquets)
    • The website is up thanks to FI cuz I kinda hate them.
    • We started a small registry but have to build on it.
    • Not doing e-pics
    • We sent STD's in lieu of Christmas cards (SO glad we did - saved big bucks in stamps!)

I have shoes that I bought for a BM dress thinking I can dye them but I can't - so I'll use them for mine. I think I have a dress - there's 2 I'm still going back & forth between & can't decide (I'll eventually post the ever popular - "help me pick a dress" post but I wanna get pics of me in them 1st). The bridal salon I like best throws in the veil so that's cool.

Still to do? Way more than I probably realize. LOL

missypoytress    September 5, 2010   Canada, getting married in NYC

I'm also a Sept. 5 bride in NYC! BUT this thread is causing me stress, cause our venue cancelled a few weeks ago (which had everything included) so I feel like we're starting over from scratch.

    So right now we have:

    • My dress (needs alterations) & veil
    • DIY Invitations done -- all of our guests are travelling, most of them internationally
    • DIY jewellery done
    • Reception venue/caterer (It's a restaurant so it's both! But we need to secure menu & details)
    • Photographer (my brother in law)
    • Bought a lot of DIY materials
    • Florist (a friend!)
    • Registeries
    • Website
    • Not doing e-pics
    • gifts for BM

    We need:

    • Ceremony venue (umm... huge!!)
    • His suit
    • BM dress
    • gift for GM
    • Cake
    • Musician for ceremony
    • Officiant
    • Rings (include my e-ring, because I lost it this week..)
    • Figure out ceremony and reception timing
    • Figure out travel for guests between ceremony and reception
    • Secure hotel block
    • Decor for both ceremony and reception
    • Finish the millions of DIY projects I had planned

and the last major thing we need... for the government to give me my fiancee visa so I can move!

Now that I have it written out it's not as bad as I thought. I think it just threw me for a loop having to re-plan our wedding. It feels like I'm having 2 weddings since the first one was pretty much completely planned!

Eeek....all these lists are making me feel like I"ve done nothing! I definitely took a wedding planning break over the holidays, but I guess it's time to get my butt in gear! We've done:

ceremony/reception venue, florist (still figuring out exact details of flowers and arrangements), photographer, dress, officiant, band....and I think that's it! Yikes!

Things that are weighing on my mind: STDs (we're waiting to see a design from an etsy seller we contacted), invitations, song choices, hotel for night before/night of the wedding, deciding on BM dresses, finalizing flower decisions, cake, wedding website, my shoes/veil/hair flower, groom's attire, PICKING OUT THE GROOMSMEN (FI refuses to do this now, I have no idea why!), MOB and MOG dresses, honeymoon, scheduling e pics, bridesmaid gifts....oh man, I need to go lie down! This is making me super nervous. Only 8 months left!

Hi hive! I'm a sept bee as well, until now we have:

    • date (our 3rd dating anniversary! 09.11.2010)
    • ceremony and reception venue booked (same place)
    • officiant (pastor of our church)
    • photographer
    • videographer
    • e-pics
    • dress picked (i have not ordered yet!)
    • wedding colors (burnt orange ,olive green, chocolabe brown)

finding the place, photographer and videographer was a pain, because we have a small budget, but we're still looking for quality. . .

the easiest has been the date, wedding colors, and dress (i just went to 2 appointments :D)

Whew!  we had a whirlwind of planning over Christmas when we went to Madison where our wedding will be.  i think i had something like 16 appointments, but we booked our florist, cake baker, ceremony musicians, and DOC! So added to the "completed" list we have: ceremony venue booked, reception venue booked, officiant lined up, photographer booked, reception music booked, hotel rooms blocked, pre-marital counseling done, engagement pictures taken and printed, my dress ordered (and in!), bridesmaid dresses chosen, cake baker booked, cake designed and decided on, flowers decided on, Save-the-dates ordered and received, ceremony musicians booked and DOC picked out

    Next on the list . . .

    • Address and mail STDs
    • continue collecting candlewick glassware for centerpieces
    • finish adding details to website (before STDs go out)
    • order bridesmaid dresses
    • decide on groom/groomsmen attire
    • finish DIY invites
    • finish DIY bridesmaid gifts (real pearl necklaces and clutch purses)
    • buy grooms wedding band
    • make menu decisions (tasting is not until April!)
    • .... i'm sure there is more!

Good luck to all you other ladies with your planning!

Phew. We have so much left to do. Shoes, caterer, (cup)cake(s), groom's attire, groomsmen attire, all that. But we now have a more firm handle on the table decorations, and both bridesmaids have their dresses, so I count that as a success!
