I am wondering the same thing as we are date twins! (yay!!)
When I did a little research I read that Barbados is lovely in September but as it stands, we may wait until after hurricane season to take a honeymoon (FI is not at all thrilled about this).
Oh good call. I will have to look into that one too. Ya I am not too thrilled about the whole hurricane situation... I also don't really want to wait until later either...
We are an October 2011 bride & groom and we are going to Curacao. It seems like there is so much to do there -- and of course are away from the hurrican belt! We are actually staying at a B&B on the beach... Frommer's has awesome info... I looked it up & saw pics & am getting so excited! ;) http://www.frommers.com/slideshow/index.cfm?p=5&group=505&cat_cd=178&layout=win
Anyone else? I am getting really worried about having to plan this honeymoon now. I really wanted to go to the Bahamas but that seems out of the question. If you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thanks Bees
We have decided on Aruba. My FSIL and her husband went there and abosolutely loved it. We will be staying at the Riu.
I'm hoping to be a Date Twin too- right now it says September 29 in my profile because I signed up here before we picked our ideal date (haven't got the ring yet- although we are engaged sans ring right now). I was hoping to do tropical and hadn't even considered the hurricaine season...good call.
I am actually the groom (bored at work) but we are "date-twins" with the folks on sept. 1! I am surprised more grooms aren't on here with these sorts of discussions. Traditionally, the groom was responsible for the honeymoon plans. My FW and I are pretty traditional about some things, so I said i would work on organizing the honeymoon. We are meeting with travel agent this weekend, and just started looking at our options.
I am liking the sound of Aruba! We also have thought about Hawaii. Fiji and the French Polynesian Islands are supposed to be incredible in September, but are likely out of our price range for now!
@BDH-ERP: Welcome! It's always nice to get a man's perspective on the bee!
Thanks! I realize that it is probably a little unusual having a groom on here! But, I figured if I have down-time, and I am doing most of the honeymoon planning, it may help to discuss it with others doing the same thing!
I've heard the Dominican Repbulic is great in September -- and they have some amazing all inclusive resorts!
I wanted to go there for our honeymoon, but since we are paying for everything ourselves -- it's just not in our budget right now. I think we'll take a nice 1 year anniversary get-a-way:)
Good Luck All:):)
Hi Date Twin!!
I am trying to convince my fiance' of visiting Mexico (Banyan Tree Mayakoba), but he is afraid we'll get sick in Mexico from the water. I thought this applied to certain parts of Mexico, not the whole region. It seems like there is no convincing him, so I'm back to the drawing board. Aruba sounds nice!

Hi There! We are Sept 1, 2011 (soooo sooon!) and we are going to Fiji. I'm super excited. The honeymoon wasn't cheap, and it takes about 17 hours to get there (from Colorado). My FH is planning most of the trip. My only requirements were: a beach, a cocktail, no tv, no internet.
I've heard some people had an affordable honeymoon in Costa Rica.
I've also heard the French Polynesian islands are fantastic.
Some areas in the Caribbean are more prone to hurricanes than others. Hurricane season is officially June through November with the high time being September & October. So we don't recommend certain areas depending on the time of the honeymoon. For example, Bahamas & the Caymans tend to get hit a lot with hurricanes around that time. There are other islands like Aruba & St. Lucia that are technically located outside of the belt. But wherever you decide to go, make sure you have cancel-for-any-reason trip insurance. Believe it or not, but some insurance policies don't cover cancellations for hurricanes b/c they're considered an "act of God."
Went to the travel agent today! Lots of great ideas! Focused on areas in St. Lucia, Aruba, and Costa Rica! Not sure which is in the lead right now, each place has it's pro's and con's...
I am a canuck so we found the best option for the money was CUBA!!! I went there in 2007 from Sept 1 to the 16th in Cayo Coco and it really was an unbelievable time, less busy tho the resort restauruants closed down the second week because it was off season so only the buffet was open. I'm not sure but you might find that with most tropical destinations. Im going to Veradero in August with my hunni for 2 weeks(under 5Gs). A main reason for going back is that I really LOVED the cuban people! So open, warm and such an intellegent people. To work in a resort its 2 to 4 years schooling and they have to speak at least 4 languages. They have little to no warnings from the Canadian Travel Reports and Warnings site. cant effin wait to go back!!!!!!!
Anybody know about the bug situations in Aruba, St. Lucia, and Costa Rica? I've heard that St. Lucia has a lot of bugs as it is rainforest, and I am guessing that Costa Rica is therefore pretty similar. I've heard Aruba is less of a problem because of it being a desert. However, has anyone else heard this, or have first-hand experience with it?

My wedding is September 1, 2012 and am trying to think of honeymoon locations. I definitely want an all inclusive location, and don't want to worry about hurricanes. I have read that your best bet for avoiding hurricanes during this time of year is "ABC---So Aruba, Bonair or Curacao".
Where have you September Bee's gone for your honeymoon? What other locations to avoid the hurricanes?
