my wedding was originally scheduled for october 3 and i was planning to use a fall theme -- orange, yellow, brown, red, pumpkins, mums, etc.

our caterer made a 'mistake' and that date isn't available so we bumped it up a month to september 5, which is labor day weekend... and still summer, but sort of the unofficial beginning of fall.

i'm considering sunflowers since they're a summer/early fall flower and they would fit in well with my rustic wedding.

i'm really stuck on the colors though...

any suggestions?

I'm getting married Labor Day Weekend too and we're definitely leaning in the fall direction. Our colors are forest green, aubergine, and gold.

I would think pumpkins and mums are probably out, but orange, yellow, brown, and red as a general color scheme still works, in my opinion!

Hello Date Twins! I'm getting married September 5, too. We're going with a champage (gold) and wine color theme (reception is at a vineyard) -- so definitely fall-ish colors. I think the great part about the start of September is that you're free to celebrate autumn! Enjoy!

I'm getting married Sept 12 and I'm using sunflowers and going with the rustic theme as well.  Our colors are sunflower yellow, kelly green , and blue (you know like flower, leaves, sky, and the FH's only request was to have blue in the wedding )  They're darker colors so they're not so summery, but also not so fall-ish either.

I am getting married 9/12 and we are using an apple red.  The shade is pretty year-round we think.  I've always said I would have a red, white, and black wedding, and this color was chosen before our date was set!

I love sunflowers - I think they are simple, yet really beautiful. I went to a friend's wedding where the bmaids wore black and carried sunflowers, and it was really elegant. The only other color they used was white everywhere - but in different linen textures, etc. If you want some punches of color - I think that "sunflower yellow" would go really well with navy or I think a green would be pretty. You could throw hot pink in there as well. Look at this board:

 http://abbyjean.typepad.com/style_me_pretty/images/2008/06/04/color_palette_green_white_and_yello.jpg

Fortunately, you can choose to go with a summer or fall look!

Since your wedding is going to be on that date, you have the option to either choose summer or fall colors. What a great advantage! I have seen a very nice combination of flowers and colors. Orange-Mango minicallas would make a spectacular wedding bouquet plus mini sunflowers would be very very nice.....You should try this combination !

I'm getting married on September 5 too!  Where I live Labor Day is officially the last day of summer, and I love me some bright colors, so I went with the summery colors tiffany blue, white, and a pop of fushia.

You could definately still go with your original color combo!  It would look awesome with sunflowers!

I'm getting married on the 5th too!

We are using Shades of Red/Pink/Orange for our colors.  It has a summery/fall feel because of the varying shades from Hot Pink to Deep Reds & Oranges.

My aunt is a Florist and I got the opportunity to go with her to the flower market this September to check out the seasonal offerings and there are SOOOO many great flowers in Reds/Pinks/Oranges/Yellows in early September :-D

Hello date twinsies!

My wedding is on September 5th as well. Our colors will be silver/metallic purple/black/ and white. As for flowers, it's probably going to be hydrangeas and I will be using large manzanita trees with crystal drapings as accents...not exactly the summer/fall colours, but purple is my favorite.

 Anyone else using purple?

I have a question for lily1223. Where do you can get white sunflowers? I have never hear something like that. But it seems pretty interesting. Any pictures? Thanks in advance

I got married Sept 6 this past year and I had kind of a sage green as my main color and used brown as an accent.  My bouquet had some kind of reddish orange ranunculus and deep colored calalilies in it along with white roses.  I was more about the fall rather than summer and I thought our colors were a good balance in between.  Hope this helps some!

I'm getting married September 6!  I think what is nice about our weekend is that it is kind of like the transition between summer and fall and you go lean whichever way you prefer.  I think sunflowers would be beautiful!

I used brown and ivory as my wedding colors this past August 30th and my flowers were my pop of color.  We went for a fall theme even though it was still summer (end of summer so it still counts just like others have said already).  The aisle and half of the tables had the galvanized buckets with sunflowers, roses, hydrandgea, berries, etc.  The bouquets mixed roses, dahlias, tulips, berries, etc.  I thought the floral around the gooms cake was quite stunning.  The sunflowers looks great.  Sunflowers can either dress up or down, it all depends on what you want.  Go for it.

As a wedding designer, I have to say that there is really no "wrong" color choices. It's your wedding, and you can go with what makes you the happiest. If you're stuck, give yourself an little color project. Go through some magazines and pick out colors that make you happy, and go from there. Remember, personalizing your wedding means choosing things that feel right to you rather than falling into a prescribed theme of what you think it "should" be.

Oh.  It's great to know there are so many girls with the same date!  Yay September 5th!

Bekiliskes - I am going with purple...  Black bm dresses and purple/green flowers (think green cymbidium orchids).  Our venue is an art museum.

My brother was married Sept 8, 2007 and they used sunflowers with chocolate brown bridesmaid dresses.  The wedding was outside in my parents apple orchard and it was just gorgeous!

Sunflowers are definitely in season (might still be a bit early for pumpkins, but you could use some early apples for decoration).
