You can always get trip insurance, that’s what we did. We’re going to Jamaica at the end of September into October for our honeymoon. We almost didn’t book the Carribean for this obvious reason. But in reading a lot on the subject, the Caribbean is so vast and there are so many islands (that in contrast are teeny tiny), and the chances of a single hurricane hitting the island that you’re on during the time that you are there is so slim. Apparently, in Jamaica, the elders will talk about events in their lives happening before or after "the storm", because there was only one in their lifetime to take note of. I think that’s probably the way it is on most of the islands. But if you’re really against it, our other option was the west coast of Mexico, no hurricanes there.

We’re going to Aruba!  Bonaire and Curacoa are supposed to be wonderful also, but due to flight schedules we took the 4 hour direct flight to Aruba over the 3 layovers we would have to do to the Bonaire or Curacoa.  Pacific Coast Mexico is also a pretty safe bet that time of year, but they are known to get the rare hurricane also.

It’s easily missed, we almost did and never would have thought it would be covered, but apparently, it’s a "cancel for any reason". Let’s pray we don’t have to use it!! We’re going to a Couples resort… highly recommended, check it out.. http://www.couples.com.

We were married on Sept. 8 and went to Curacao for just under two weeks.  The ABC islands (as AOEBuckeye mentioned) are very far south and Curacao hasn’t been hit in 40+ years.  I’d HIGHLY recommend the Avila Beach Hotel where we stayed — lovely, not too expensive and old world charm.  You can always get trip insruance too if you’re worried.

I work in the Caribbean and have spent many months (years?) there, and would have to agree with a few of the above posters.  While September is definitely hurricane season, you have a very good chance of a storm never hitting the island you are on.  You might even want to check out the stats on the specific islands, as some seem to get hit more often than others (Puerto Rico, I think?) whereas others haven’t been hit in decades (Barbados usually gets missed!).  But it is definitely still in the ‘wet’ season, which can be unpredictable, so you might get lots of beautiful weather, or you could end up with rain everyday (did you see that old episode of Friends where they visit Barbados?!– I’ve had visits like that!)  Good luck either way, and think about the insurance!

We got married 9/6/08 and went to Cozumel, Mexico from 9/6 to 9/12. We booked the Sabor Wyndham but got upgraded to the new Aura, which is what I had hoped would happen. The hotel was absolutely beautiful, we had a swim up suite which we loved! It was all-inclusive and had no problems with getting food or drinks whenever we needed. The 24 hour room service was great, we ordered something every night. It was off season so not all the restaurants were open but it wasn’t crowded either. The only downside was that we felt the effects of the incoming hurricane that was heading towards Texas and alot of the water sports and activities were cancelled. My husband was hesitant about even going to Mexico but he is sl glad we did. He enjoyed it as much as I did. We definitely want to go back sometime with friends. The hotel was a little over $1000 and we used my dad’s airline miles for our flight so that helped out alot. We spent a little over $400 just for tipping, taxis and souveniers.
