So FH and I are really leaning towards a destination beach wedding (Jamacia) and I have been looking for “the dress” for a while now. I’ve always had this picture in my head of the Little Mermaid scene where she is coming out of the ocean in her sparkley dress when I pictured my beach wedding. So I have been browsing around for some inspiration and stumbled upon some cute seqined dresses. The only thing is, I really don’t want my wedding dress to look too prom. Do you think it would look more bridal with a veil? So I need y’alls opinion on this, please help me out! This is the kind of style I was looking at. Thanks!!!

I love the one you just posted! I say do what you’ve always dreamt of, just add a veil. Everything looks bridal with a veil:) This is pronovias, very “little mermaid”

I think you could totally do sequins. But FYI if you’ve never worn a sequin dress they can get a little itchy and uncomfortable. Particularly in the underarm area.

I think if you’ve always dreamed of a dress/feeling like the scene from The Little Mermaid, why not get a dress like that? Many people have non-white/ivory dresses, so why not have an amazing gown that you’ve always dreamed of?

I think you can absolutely do a sequined dress, but I think the particular one you posted isn’t the most bridal. Picking the right style will help, and so would choosing one that’s not 100% sequined and/or less heavily sequined. There are a few on the first page of this thread, and I think they would all be more bridal than the one you have posted, just as examples: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/if-white-was-not-an-option#axzz2jT7SWG9u

@edepp2010: that dress is my dream dress

I think it’s gorgeous! Go for it!

I love them but I am biased cos I had them 🙂 however I prefer them to be more muted and pearly/iridescent like the one edepp2010 posted because even though I wanted a statement dress, I didn’t want to be too in-your-face with it. But if your personality is more outgoing then you could probably pull off the gold.
Also regarding the scratchiness, here’s a tip. The more sparse and flat they sit, the less scratchy they are 🙂
This was totally my inspiration too!

Hahaha, I love The Little Mermaid. I’m all for sequined wedding dresses, but that one in particular does strike me as more prom/pageant appropriate than bridal. What about a slightly more demure style?

@peonyinparis: I love those!!!
@dswiney: Not a fan of the second at all. It’s way too prom for my liking!
Is your fiance a fan of sequins? It might sound silly, but I know a lot of guys who HATE them. Not sure why, but they do. My boyfriend told me he’d love me in any dress, then I asked him what if I picked a sequoined gown and he told me that was a deal breaker (obviously kidding, but I know he’d much prefer one without). Just a thought 🙂
