OK so I had an interview with a very large, well-known media enterprise yesterday. They have offices all over the country, and happen to have one in the city near where I live. I interned there during college, so my shot is better because of that. I went into the interview knowing that a girl I went to college with works there as an associate editor. I wouldn’t say we were COMPETITORS per say… but we had the same major and always went after the same internships/job opportunities/etc. Well, the lady interviewing me knew that we went to school together, and also knew that we graduated at the same time, knew each other well, etc. She brought me over to Nemesis’s desk to say hi, and then I find out the interviewer’s office is literally RIGHT across from Nemisis’s cubicle. And the interviewer left the door WIDE OPEN. I mean, I could hear Nemisis typing, so I’m positive she heard every word back and forth during the interview.
WTH? Like, I definitely couldn’t bring my A-game because I was self-conscious about Nemisis hearing everything I was saying and second-guessing myself. It just totally threw me off. I feel like it’s weird to conduct an interview with an open door (in a large office) anyway, but knowing that my co-graduate is sitting right there, WHY would she do this? Just to test me?
Ugh, anyway. IDK how well it went…
