We followed the advice of our venue and opened our buffet at 7pm, when we were to be announced in at 7:20 (we were off doing pictures and busteling my dress). This was the biggest mistake of the night! Everybody was completely done eating by then, and so DH and I sat at our sweetheart table trying to eat and everyone felt the need to walk up and talk to us then. we got like 5 bites of food the whole night, and had to awkwardly hug people from our seats. I feel this was partly clueless guests (we are under 25 so most of our guests haven’t really been involved in wedding yet lol), and also bad advice from our venue.
I just wanted to share so that other bee’s considering this might think otherwise!
anyone else have any similar advice?

i have never been to a wedding where guests ate before the bride and groom arrived – never heard of it either

@eloping: i thought it was unusual too but my venue said it would help people not be restless waiting for us to return, and also help get the party started earlier. This was my one and ONLY complaint with their advice, everything else they said and did was above and beyond perfect! very odd for them to suggest this lol

That’s nuts, how many guest did you have? I haven’t been to that much weddings with buffets, but typically they wait for the bride and groom to arrive and be seated. I’m surprised everyone was served and done eating by in twenty minutes. Weird, I’ve never seen that happen.
