Did you check with the place you want to get married to see what dates it is available?
So far all dates are available at that time. Since it's just the two of us, and the place we've chosen will do weddings any day of the week, we can be flexible.
We picked a date according to what the venue we wanted had open. :)
I said "What do you have in October through January?"
She responded, "Oh, the whole holiday season is full, so November, December and January are out. October 2 and October 16 are available, or I can check February."
We went with the 2nd because if we were going to go early, we figured might as well go all the way early!
@daydreamwanderer: That's funny! "All the way early!"
So has that affected your planning significantly?
I'm from west Michigan. Where are you having your wedding? It's beautiful over here at that time. You'll probably get some gorgeous fall colors.
We pretty much went with what was open and the requirements of the Bahamas. They require you to be there for 72 hours so thats when we are getting married!
May sound weird but I didn't want my period for my wedding (and would have preferred to have it for the honeymoon), so I took that into consideration as well...worked out perfectly for me!
@mishelleez: That makes perfect sense. The Bahamas are a beautiful place to get married. I used to spend a lot of time there. Where in the Bahamas are you getting married? There are so many gorgeous places there!
@lauren810c: At first it did sound a little weird... But then I thought about... A white gown and a period just do NOT go together!
We got married in Savannah this past March and we LOVED it! We had about 60 people attend though, so it wasn't just us like it will be for your wedding. After narrowing our wedding months down to March or April, we ended up letting the venue determine our date, as we knew we wanted our reception at the Olde Pink House and March 27 was available so we booked it!
I don't think you should stress too much about choosing a date. I would check a calendar of events for Savannah though, just to avoid any major festivals or events that could be going on in town and that may interfere with your romantic weekend.
Where in Savannah are you wanting to get married and where are you staying?
I would go for early November. That way you can enjoy the holidays with family and friends. Also, the weather might be better - I don't know if it gets wet or chilly down south in the winter, but earlier seems like you'll have a better chance of wandering around town enjoying it.
@Farfromachildbride: Oh! It's so nice to hear from someone who has gotten married in Savannah! We had thought about inviting people to go, but for several reasons decided to make it just the two of us. Of course that means no one to help me dress and having to do my own hair and makeup!
We've selected the Gastonian. They have an Elopement Package for $1099 that includes 2 nights stay, cake, flowers, officiant, champagne toast, and venue... We have to figure out our own photographer.
@rachelss: Early November would be nice. We're just not sure that Jim will be done with work yet. He could be done as early as mid-October, but could go as long as the first week of November.
Yeah, I vote for November. it might be cool by then and actually feel like Fall.LOL

Jim and I have decided where we want to get married. We're going to Savannah Georgia. We even know where we want to get married and stay...
What we don't know is the date!!
Jim and I both work for the Census Bureau, in the offices not out in the field. In fact, that's how we met, working at the same office. My position recently ended, because I wasn't as high up in management as he is. We have no idea when his job is going to end, although we do know it will end soon and most likely mid-October. He can't take time off for a vacation, so we have to wait until he's done.
Since it is only going to be the two of us, we don't really have to worry about the usual stuff that goes with setting a date. You know, invitations, caterers, bands, etc. However, we do want to get married this year, and we're getting down to the wire, and we're looking at being in the holiday season, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
So here's my questions...
Has anyone else had similar problems with figuring out what date to get married?
How did you choose your date?
What do you think would be our best bet for a date in November or December for a wedding in Savannah?
Thanks!!!
