If you are looking at the $200 price range, I'd recommend a Brother. i've had 2 of them and REALLY worked them hard for over a year (of everyday use) before killing them. I have a Janome currently that I LOOOOVE, but I think it was around $1500, so that's not in the budget. Check on ebay there are a few sewing machine stores (Mrs. Vac and Mr. Sew is one I've been to in person a few times) and you can sometimes get a better deal on the machine and not pay tax. Also, before you take the plunge on anything, try googling for reviews and becoming a member of a sewing forum that has member reviews.

My ancient sewing machine recently bit the dust and it will cost more to repair it than to buy a new one. What type of sewing machine do you guys have and would you recommend it? As much as I would like one of the amazing top of the line machines, I'm looking at spending $200 or less. Thank you!
