Hello! I highly recommend Paul Zorich of Darren Z Productions. He was recommended to my husband and me by two of our friends who had gotten married last year. He's a freelancer, so if you contact him directly, his prices are great!
We paid $850 for the entire day/night (3-11pm on a Sunday evening) with no fees for overtime, set-up, breakdown, or travel - if he had been contacted through one of the companies he freelances for, they would have charged $1200.. Paul was a fabulous DJ who played a good blend of music to cater to our mix of guests (older family friends, our friends, kids).
You can reach Paul at pdzorich@yahoo.com or 510-220-5999. He's quick at responding to email and phone messages and a great conversationalist. Please tell him that Stephanie says hi!
WOW-- $1095 is a lot to me. I just got in contact with Miss Cherry Blossom's DJ and he is great. Unfortunately, we are not going to use him because our friend has offered to DJ as a gift to us. CB's DJ's prices are A LOT less. He was super responsive and quick to get back to me. He also sent me a mix CD to listen to. He is in the SF area. He does not Emcee so maybe that is why he costs less. Email me for more info- I can put you in touch with him!
Good luck!
I'm in the bay area, too. My first estimate from my DJ was $1250 for 6 hours (+ ceremony mics). I told him I was looking for more in the $1000 range, and he said OK! Maybe try that to get a lower price. They'd rather book the day than not, you know? There is a lot of competition out there.
Miss Cherry Blossom blogged about this guy: http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/01/17/an-ear-for-the-bump-ba-bump/ I emailed him about prices, and they were REALLY reasonable (about $500 for 4 hours).
Mark Phinney was my DJ. In 2007 he charged I think $450 for the whole night, and did exactly what we wanted him to. He works out of the San Jose area, I think. I looked up his number, it's

Hi everyone I found a more REASONABLE DJ for my wedding,
DJ CHRIS WEBB who has over 18 years experience as a wedding disc jockey, originally from the UK. I visited his website
www.californiadiscjockeys.com and found everything I needed. He offered my help with my wedding planning also at no additional cost, and the florist was supurb! Our photographer he recommended was on time like the DJ, and very professional. Chris can help you plan everything from caterers to florists at very nominal costs....if you are on a budget you will find that DJ Chris will work with youto accommodate you. We had a wonderful wedding thanks to DJ Chris Webb.
I recommend him in addition to what the others have said on here about their DJ.

Hi everyone,
Got a quote from a very reputable Bay Area DJ company for $1095 for the minimum 4 hours and $100 for every hour after that. Set up and breakdown is on the DJ's own time and does not count towards the quoted time. Is this a good rate?
Anyway, was looking to see if anyone had any recommendations for the area as well.
Thank you!
