I knew you all would be the perfect people to ask this. My mom is getting a new diamond in her ring because her old diamond cracked. Her jeweler told her that he can get really good deals on fancy shaped diamonds. She is going to go with a one carat diamond. I put together a few pics of her ring and what it would look like with different shapes. The jeweler does not have a lot of loose diamonds in stock at the moment. So, my question for you is, what shape do you like best and approximately how big do you think the simulation is? I couldn’t figure out how to make it approximately a one carat. Thanks in advance 🙂
This is her original. The center is a .61 carat round:

Maybe http://www.lumeradiamonds.com/files/size_chart.pdf will help. The oval looks a lot bigger than the pear. By The Way I love pears.

Thanks for the website that is very helpful!

With the curve at the bottom of the setting, I don’t like the squarish-shaped cushion in that setting. Does she want another round? I really like the picture of the oval in that setting.

I love my mom’s pear but its over 2 carats so it looks quite big on her finger (plus she has like a size 3-4 finger). But pears definitely face up smaller. You should head over to http://www.pricescope.com. Best forum for diamond shopping. Is she set on going with her jeweler? There are many online retailers (you’ll find them on pricescope; we love James Allen which is where we purchased my engagement ring. Blue Nile is another…there are a bunch) which would get you a much better deal (you’ll either be able to pay less for the same size stone or stay with your original budget and get a bigger stone than what you had planned).

I think the pearl or oval looks quite nice!

I’m not normally a pear fan, but in that setting it would be beautiful.

Thanks for getting back to me. The jeweler we were talking to offers crazy awesome deals because he just opened up a new shop and is trying to get more clients. Some prices he has given us were less than blue nile. Thank you for the tip though.
