I got engaged October 14th, my FH suggested that we spend the Thanksgiving long weekend in Niagara Falls, Canada (we live in Toronto). [ At this time, I knew the engagement was coming up. ] He wanted to leave for Niagara falls early (which I thought was no point because they dont let you check in to tooo early, but we left early anyways and visited a couple winerys at Niagara-on-the-Lake. He let me buy 3 bottles of ice wine (I knew something was fishy, he usually only lets me have one 😉 ) Than around 2pm, we started driving towards the hotel (or so I thought ..) We pull into this small airport and he gets out of the car, leaving me dumbfounded looking at him. He assures me we are at the right place and we go into the building, he than proceeds to tell me that we are going to take a helicopter ride as an early 2 year anniversary present. The helicopter ride is only 20 minutes long, the time to get from the airport, to right over the falls and back. After our ride begins and we reach the falls, I was looking out the window and get a tap on my shoulder, I turn around to look at him and in his hand is a 2.1 carat Legacy Tiffany Engagement ring. And he lipped ‘Will you marry me?’ (lipped, cause it was super loud in the helicopter)
I know it’s the holiday season and there are sure to be lots of engagment stories!
my fiancé gave me a whole spiel about how engagement rings were too expensive and we should just put money towards the wedding ( I got upset because he’d been looking at rings that day and I just wanted a token ring even! :p)
He pretended he was gong to bed and came back with the ring box! 🙂 I thought hewas joking and told him not to be mean ( he was a title drunk at the time too 😉
he didn’t get down on one knee I because I had my feet on the coffee table ( I was sitting n the couch) the wasnt enough room :p
Awwww!!! That’s such a cute story! And I love your ring!!!
I got engaged last year but I never get tired of telling our story. My FI had the day off from work. But I had to go in. No big deal but my office is inside a very well known big box store so it was incredibly loud and I couldn’t wait to go home and cuddle in bed with my honey.
Well when I got home he was hanging on the couch playing his game and reminded me we had to go out with friends in about an hour which started a whole “do we have to” argument.. After I got out of the shower I saw he was staring at the tree oddly. So, I asked him what was wrong with the tree? He had insisted I come over and figure out what was wrong with it. I told him I would when I finished getting dressed. when I got back he was still staring at the stupid tree. So I walk over and start adjusting some of the ornaments and the garland and he keeps saying nope that’s not it nope that’s not it. So finally I asked him to show me and he pointed to one of our new ornaments. and right on top was the ring I have looking at for weeks. I just looked back at him and asked if he was being serious. I sort of tackled him to the couch and he whispered in my ear “I can never imagine a life with out you. Will you please make me the happiest man alive?” We of course cancelled all of our plans for the rest of the night and went out to our favorite place for dinner. it was a great day and even though it happened more than a year ago I still remember it like it was yesterday 🙂
ps at dinner he told me my ring had been hidden on the tree for 3 weeks. How I didn’t see it is beyond me 🙂
My fiance and I have been dating for 4 years when he proposed on 1/5/13. We had been talking about marriage looking at rings for a while, so I knew that it was coming up.
We woke up early and exchanged Christmas gifts because we had not been able to be together on Christmas day. I made brunch and we relaxed for a good chunk of the day. My fiance was getting really antsy sitting around throughout the day asking me if I wanted to do anything or go anywhere.
We ended up deciding to go downtown (we live in Cincinnati). As soon as we parked the car I knew something was up. He was very quiet and nervous and freaked out when I grabbed my coat from the back car seat. After walking downtown for a while, he led me to a horse-drawn carriage ride that looked like it was right out of a fairy tale. We climbed in and cuddled up. It was awkward at first because I felt like EVERYONE kept staring at as and giving us looks and he was barely talking to me. About half way through as we turned down a cobble stone alley way he let go of my hand and said he needed to check the time on his phone.
I turned my head to look out the window and when I turned back he was holding an open ring box! He said to me “You know I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?”
Of course I said yes!
After he admitted he was so quiet that day because he was nervous. That was probably my favorite part of it all. He knew I would say yes, but he was still anxious.
My FI proposed on Friday the 16th December 2011, on our 4th dating Anniversary. I was not expecting it at all, because we’d never spoken too much about marriage (only that we’d both want it one day in the future) and we hadn’t looked at rings either. It was my last day of my level 5 Diploma in ECE, and FI fetched me from my course. When we got home I kept on nagging him to exchange gifts (I’m super impatient and hate waiting for anything ) and he kept on saying “No, after dinner” This went on for a couple of hours, and in the end at about 4pm he agreed to exchange Anniversary gifts. We were sitting on my bed, and I gave him his gift (silver bracelet) and he gave me mine; a pair of oven gloves, an apron, and a cookbook. I thought it was a bit strange as he always gets me something a bit more romantic such as earrings, bracelets, perfume etc, and so I was puzzled over it. Then, he said ” I got these because I think you could brush up on your cooking skills a bit” I was thinking “Whattt?, Err, okay, thought they weren’t too bad” and then he said “oh, I’ve also got some chocolates for you, they’re in my bag” He then bent down to retrieve what I thought were chocolates in his bag, and next thing, he was kneeled down next to my bed on one knee, and he was asking me to marry him!!! I was so shocked, that I didn’t say anything at first, and I eventually I was like “What, OMG YESS!!” The funniest thing was that I was wearing my smudgy makeup that I had applied at 6 in the morning, and he was wearing his slippers and trackpants!!!! And it was perfect.
