I'm on the Pinterest home boards, and I'm convinced all these places are fake/straight from a magazine/billionaires' homes.
Share your REAL awesome home things! I want ideas.
I don't have a picture of it, but our entryway has a landing and several steps going down into the apartment. This means that there is a large space on the wall above the stairs. We have a big 2x3 photo wrap canvas of one of our wedding pictures there with 3 of our framed table numbers underneath forming our wedding date. I love it! It's the first thing anyone sees when they walk into our apartment!
Ohhh I've been on a home DIY kick lately. Right now, the most creative things I've done are a DIY sunburst mirror which I LOVEEEEE and have stenciled an accent wall. I <3 pinterest!! I have a looong list of things I want to do from pinterest!
We have a large wall decal. It falls off a lot since our wall is bumpy :( But everyone loves it when they see it :) :) Our whole house has a safari/zebra/travel theme.

@icetea: Ohh cool! That looks nice with the picture frames.
@MrsWBS: What does the sunburst mirror look like?
Yay! I was hoping someone would start a thread like this. I love seeing real-life stuff, not just the overly-designed and perfectionist sets used in photo shoots.
Posting now so I can come back and add pics later. I just set up my Christmas centerpiece on the dining room table, redecorated our front porch and foyer for Christmas and I'm super excited about it!
@Miss Mauverick: We didn't decorate at all for Christmas. We suck at home decorating!!! This is why I need ideas.
I am trying to think of what's creative in my house. I mean, I love quirky art and like using things for a different purpose than what they were intended, but not sure I have any cool pix showing this off.
If I come up with something, I'll post!!! Just marking this post for future reference. :) I love Pinterest, but I haven't attempted anything from there yet!
This is our entry way. We just moved into this house, so I'm having fun decorating for the holidays!!
I just went through and deleted all my pictures, but I'll put some of these up for a bit:
Chalkboard above our mantle:

Painted wall in the nook of our office, closet made into a bookshelf that is color-coordinated

Salvaged door room divider made by my mom, with our wedding date on them
Handmade Mr. and Mrs. pillows
Also this. I cut off the top where our names are, but it's a wood cut out of our "story" that I designed.

The antique 1920s bicycle on the mantel is our home's unique statement piece. I collect & restore antique bicycles, so with 10 foot celings & a large mantel, it was the perfect fit!!

@shutterbugKELLY: LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
I have a few things in our house that are DIY/Magazine/Pinterest Inspired:
We don't have a front closet so I stacked old wooden crates to store shoes, mittens and other treasures.

I made an old window frame into a chalk board for the family room. After Christmas I will remove the stocking and change the quote.

A chicken wire message board (attach photos and notes with clothespins) made from an old window frame. Below is a reclaimed wooden table, painted purple and distressed.

A mixed media canvas to add colour to the bathroom.

A stitchery I made for front entry.

I'm not very crafty, but I'm super proud of these diy roman blinds I made! You basically chop up some cheap Walmart blinds, glue fabric, and they're awesome. The second picture shows how they fold up all classily :)
I followed the template at http://made2style.com/2012/02/22/diy-roman-shades/.
Between these and my profile pic, can you tell I like birds?!
@lolot: Love the parrot blinds!!! We have a small pet parrot. I think my husband would go crazy if I added one more parrot thing to our apt, though.
Am really impressed by all the artsiness in people's homes! Can't wait to be able to decorate ours later this winter when we finally close!
@BakeosaurusRex: Really like the chicken wire board.
@MommaJenn28: New houses always make it fun.
This mirror took me a couple months to complete working on it on & off. It's a metallic gold color, you can't really tell from the picture.. that I cropped myself out of!

Ok, so this isn't so creative, but in a way it is because I like to repurpose things. I have an antique chifferobe that I bought when I was in college. It wasn't for sale, but was a display piece at an antique store. I convinced the owner to sell it to me and used it as an entertainment center in the living room up until last year! (so about 15 years!) The TV was on the dresser part, and the drawers held DVDs, CDs, etc. The "door" part held shelves with the stereo, DVD player, etc.
But now I have it in the guest room and I use it to hold extra quilts, blankets, etc. I just recently changed out the boring wood knobs on the drawers for pretty ones from HobLob.
Before knob change:
After knob change:
I was looking for something fun and bold for my entry area and ultimately just decided just to make something myself. I love how it turned out!

Don't have a picture on my new computer yet,
but the cutest thing in my house is a little orange and white cat named Coco.
(:
@MommaJenn28: That is really cute. I might have to try somethign similar in our home when we close!
These are some of my favorite things. :)
Sorry these are such horrible pictures.
These are in our living room:

And these photo's are hanging over our bed:

I want to do a wall collage here but I need more things first. So for now it looks like this.

@BreezyBride24: thank you :) ive been having SO much fun decorating our new home. You will love it :) Good luck :)
Love this thread and see what actual homes look like, not just on Pinterest!
I had a 'Pinterest' Style in my homes before it even existed. I love those little details. A few examples (from different homes, as I move quite a lot). I always try to create small corners of little details in my home, full of memories.
My Christmas decorations this year (took them down already though)
New York travel corner
Kitchen corner:
Living room with lots of details (those clocks are places I've lived, amongst others)
Love love love my bookcases, they're the most important thing in the world
Also love that little birdie thing on the right.
Hope y'all enjoyed a sneak peek into my homes and style :D
I always say that my home is a museum of my life; a bit chaotic for some, but I love it! I now live together with my BF and he's the same too, luckily!
@sfp: Threadjacking a bit here but you've lived in Sofia? How cool! I spent a summer in Bulgaria and just loved it there! I don't "meet" many people who have been there let alone lived there!
Also, your house is adorable!
