My FI took me to a botanical garden one day we were both off work. (I love flowers!) There weren’t that many people around said day, and we had been using the auto-timer feature on the camera to take some photos. Right before he proposed he had set the camera to video to record the proposal… So cute!

I was engaged at DisneyWorld.  During the Wishes fireworks, he was being romantic (which is not unusual) and we were talking about our wishes, wants, dreams for the future.  We were right on the side of the castle.  As the last fire work went off, he said he had one major wish, got down on one knee and proposed.  It was fantastic. We are both HUGE Disney fans and I wouldn’t change one second of any of it.  It was perfect.

@otto2008:  Any day that isn’t Valentine’s Day would be better (in my opinion).

Your Disneyland idea sounds very cute- I have had lots of friends get engaged in Disneyland, but none with a charicature! I recently saw a video where a guy proposed during Crush’s interactive ride and that was really cool/different too. I love Disneyland, but I might wait for the ring.

Are you planning on having a photographer/trusted friend in the distance with a camera at the beach or garden? If not, an auto-timer would work too!. I know it is important to some people to have a photo of the big moment (I really treasure mine). Malibu is a beautiful beach, though I am not familiar with how busy it is is she wants it semi-private.  LA Botanical Garden is beautiful, but I think Huntington Library & Botanical Gardens in Pasadena is GORGEOUS!! It is bigger so it would spread out the people more for a little more privacy. Just another option!

We were engaged at Disney World (both Disney fans) in Epcot at Le Cellier steakhouse. He didn’t want it to be too cliche so in front of the castle was out. He wanted to incorporate Beauty and the Beast via the new Belle’s Ballroom but the open date was pushed back too far. Instead he got a flower package with a Beauty and the Beast vase. It was perfect 🙂 I think if you can’t do it in Disney, but still wanted something similar, it would be really sweet.

I think any location will be great but Disney or the beach might be more appropriate if you really want the theme.

@otto2008:  I am a huge fan of disney so I would say there…however if she wants private, it is a little more difficult. I say propose during the mermaid ride (if you don’t mind not getting on your knee) You have your own little clam shell and its romantic on the part where they sitting on the boat under the nights stars and the song “kiss the girl” is playing.

If the ring is not here in time for Disneyland, I would go for the beach!

@otto2008:  I selected the beach, but maybe you want to consider an OC or San Diego beach? I like Crystal Cove a lot– it tends to be not so crowded and lots of little alcolves where you may feel like the proposal is semi-private.

@otto2008:  Yes! I don’t think anyone would even see you as it is only 2-3 people per clam shell. Much like the haunted mansion.

Let us know how it goes! 🙂

@otto2008:  I love the botanical garden idea. It’s a breathtaking view and will allow for a more private moment between you guys when you propose 🙂

I had a beach proposal and it was so beyond perfect! He took me for a walk on the beach around dinner time, there were very little people left on the beach so we had plenty of privacy.  He proposed on the jetty rocks, and I would never trade it for a thing.  My friend also had a disney proposal which was very lovely too, but not very private.  Congrats and she is very lucky to have someone who would put this much thought into the perfect place!

Also, consider if she will feel at all bummed about a proposal with no ring.  Its 100% not about the ring and I would have been happy with a plastic toy ring BUT everyone will want to see the ring right away and if shes someone who may get frusturated or upset with that aspect I would make sure you have the ring before the proposal.

@otto2008:  that all sounds so sweet!

My fiancé proposed at discovery Cove in Orlando and it was amazing! It didn’t bother me that it was public. It was such a good memory and we have pictures that will last us a lifetime.

I am biased because FI proposed to me on a turquoise beach at sunset up in northern Canada. It was absolutely incredible. I’ve always loved the beach, and he knew I wanted it to be private.  We were around a bonfire on the beach, he took out his guitar, and started playing “our” songs that took me back 4 years.  Then he took me down to the edge of the water and proposed.

I hate the attention, and I feel like that is one of the most important moments in one’s life.  The only people out there on that beach were the two of us, and my best friend and her cousin (who filmed it for us and took photos).

Disney would be cute though if you don’t mind the crowds and attention, but my choice would be Beach > Park > Disney.
