This post just made me really hungry! You cake flavors sound so good. We're going for our cake tasting tomorrow so hopefully I will be able to contribute to this post when we're done :)
Three tiered cake with a sheet cake to serve all our guests. We'll have lemon poppyseed cake with a raspberry filling, and chocolate cake with a raspberry filling. All covered with buttercream. Yum!
We're having a mint chocolate chip cake and strawberry shortcake!!!!
three tiers - middle will be chocolate with chocolate mousse, top and bottom will be sweet potato with white chocolate caramel mousse
Our cutting cake will be dark chocolate with an irish cream filling and white buttercream icing. We are having cupcakes, they will be chocolate or vanilla, with either dark chocolate ganache or vanilla bean icing.
We are having Fleur de Sel Cupcakes (chocolate cupcake with caramel filling and topped with chocolate ganache and fleur de sel salt) and Passion Fruit Filled Cupcakes (vanilla cupcake with passion fruit filling, buttercream frosting).
For our cutting cake, it is a chocolate velvet cake with vanilla fondant frosting and white sprinkles.
Ours is going to be a four tier.
I'm thinking the top would be our anniversary tier
3rd will be something egg and nut free for my nephews. Any suggestions??
2nd will be something super light and airy maybe like a angel food with fresh fruit?
bottom would be chocolate, chocolate, chocolate for the FFIL. He's a sweet & chocolate freak!
Is anyone else worried about the drastic flavors between tiers??
All of these flavors sound really good!
Goldilocks- that lemon poppyseed cake sounds delicious!
Gerbera, I am not worried about different cake flavors between layers. They will all be served seperately so I don't think it will matter. Am I wrong?
I'm so undecided, but we're doing one two tier cake and multiple layer cakes, so I have lots of room to experiment.
On the traditional cake, I know I want chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and white/yellow cake with a fruit curd and buttercream overall.
Besides that, I'm planning on doing a yellow cake with chocolate sour cream frosting, a hazelnut cake with chocolate ganache, a Pink Lady cake, and probably more once I scour for recipes.
We are having vanilla cake with strawberry french creme and fresh strawberries in the filling, and chocolate cake with hazelnut french cream filling. The cake will have vanilla buttercream frosting because I just don't like the taste of fondant.
The groom's cake is going to be New York style cheesecake, which is his favorite, with fondant cutouts on the top in his favorite design.
Godiva brownies with chocolate chunks. I hope. haha. I'm not yet engaged.
"We are having vanilla cake with strawberry french creme and fresh strawberries in the filling, and chocolate cake with hazelnut french cream filling. The cake will have vanilla buttercream frosting because I just don't like the taste of fondant."
That sounds delish!
We're doing cupcakes half with chocolate filled w/ raspberries and the other a vanilla lemon - most likely with butercream frosting.
Tier One- Almond Cake with Amaretto Mousse
Tier Two- Yellow Cake with Raspberry Mousse
Tier Three-Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Mousse
wow, i love all these creative flavors. must tell you how i love each one.
jaylii9--that almond and apricot combo is going to be divine!
goldilocks--i love lemon poppyseed
redsoxgirl--mint chocolate chip? i am coming to your wedding
mikan and cupcake26--anything with caramel gets me drooling
ms mini--ooh irish cream filling
gerbera--haha your FI sounds like my kind of guy!
futuremrsreed--the strawberry combo sounds heavenly
miss biner--well i hope this whole chocolate chunk thing becomes a reality soon!
we're having brown sugar vanilla cake with caramel toffee buttercream, and another vanilla cake with cookies n cream frosting.
Our entire cake is red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and buttercreme frosting.
We're def having dark chocolate cake with cream cheese icing and yellow cake with vanilla buttercream, but I need a 3rd flavor and I'm still pondering...
ours was so delicious - chocolate cake with chocolate ganache frosting and whipped orange buttercream filling. we loved it!
Everyone's cakes sound amazing - no joke my mouth is salivating just reading all the yumminess....We're doing a Pie Bar - - - I am no reconsidering, HAHAHAHAHHAHA
We finally decided to do a 3-tier cheesecake. The bottom tier is raspberry, the middle is chocolate hazelnut and the top is lemon blueberry.
The vanilla and strawberry cake is my baker's specialty. They call it "Strawberries N' Creme." I just about swooned at my tasting!
I have to say, all of these flavors are making me crave cake. I just got back from the store and picked up everything I needed to make lemon cake, and now I am reconsidering because Miss CakeBall mentioned tiramisu! And the chocolate and orange sounds delicious too!
We've picked one. Almond cake with whip cream filling and buttercream icing.
Now we have to choose our "chocolate"
3 tiers. He is doing a chocolate hopefully with a chocolate fudge filling (i may sneak that in on him lol)
I love strawberries so I want a strawberry with strawberry cream filling, yum
and i will let the kids pick the next.
must stop reading. must avoid cake aaaahhhhh these sound so good it makes me want to go get cake right now.
ps ours are lemon cake with marionberry filling and Mexican chocolate with chocolate ganache filling.
We're doing three different tiers:
Bottom: White cake with raspberry filling
Middle: Almond with Amaretto filling
Top: Red Velvet with Cream Cheese filling
And we're using european buttercream to cover them all, with pistachio macaroons on the middle tier. yummmy... so excited!
Our cake (3 tiers) is goin to be almond-apricot for the bottom tier, and chocolate-raspberry for the top 3 tiers. (The fruits are the fillings, and the frosting will be white chocolate buttercream for the entire cake.)
We're also serving blueberry pies -- it's a Maine wedding after all!
@misspug -- I also agree that almond apricot is a truly divine flavor. However, my dad (who eats pretty much anything) HATES apricot, so we had to go w/ a second cake flavor.
MMMMM CAKE.......
Ours is a 4 tier cake with 2 tiers Red Velvet with cream cheese filling and the other 2 tiers is chocoate with dark chocolate and white chocolate mousse filling.
All covered in fondant and painted silver.
I am really excited to see the cake!!!
We mixed out tiers. The classic vanilla poundcake with chocolate buttercream, and then our fave, carrot cake.
We're doing traditional southern Bread Pudding and Tiramisu!! Definitely not traditional wedding cake, it's not "us". Although they are so pretty!
My cake will be Sour Cream Almond and the Groom's cake is going to be Black Forest cake.
I cannot wait, October seems so far away but it is gonna be awesome.
We have two flavors, so far. We are contemplating a third though. The two flavors we have chosen, so far are: Choclolate Cake with Cookies and Cream Mousse and Lemon Cake with Marionberry Cream Cheese Mousse.

Tell the hive what your cake flavor(s) will be or what they were at your wedding. Feel free to share if you are serving cupcakes, pie, tiramisu or anything else if you are not serving cake!
Our bakery had so many good flavors so we chose several flavors and fillings. We will serve the cake buffet style with little signs with the flavors described for the guests.
Our cake will be three tiers. The bottom tier will be layers of lemon and orange cake with raspberry preserve filling. The middle tier will be almond cake with apricot preserve filling. The top tier will be the same as the bottom tier, and we take that home. We also will have two half sheet cakes being served. The first half sheet cake will be white cake with bavarian creme and the other half sheet cake will be marble cake with chocolate ganache. This amount of cake should amount to 160-170 pieces of cake. Lots of options for people!
