We're making organic homebrewed beer for our favors. We've been making beer for a couple years now, so we want to share that with our guests. It's going to be costly and time consuming, though! Anyone else out there making their own edible favors?
@simplifiedbride: Caramel Popcorn! We met while working at the movie theatre so we decided to do popcorn. (:
@simplifiedbride: that sounds so fun!! We are doing honey favors since my grandpa is a beekeeper. We are going to put a little sticker that says 'meant to bee'!
@crh1729: cute! and tasty! :) on some wedding blog, i saw popcorn in paper cones displayed in vintage soda crates. really cool for a rustic/vintage type reception.
@simplifiedbride: very! We are actually renting popcorn machines for the reception and we have these cute popcorn buckets cheap so that's what we're using!
@peaches1038: ooh, i love the personal connection with your grandpa. i bet the labels will look so cute, i love bee themed anything.
Orchard mini apple pies. We taste tested them a few months ago and they were absolutely delish!
The pic below is obviously not apple but its the closest thing that I could find to what we're getting...

@UpstateCait: those are adorable!! please tell me you're going to package them up like this?! too cute.
We're making mini recipe books containing four of our favorite family recipes (2 from his family, 2 from mine). Does that count? :)
Im putting personalized m & m's tiffany blue and white into a little replica of a tiffany box!
Oh my gosh, these are all awesome!!! I want to come to all your weddings! We did homemade caramel since it's my specialty of sorts ;)

@bakerella: they look great. i bet it tasted awesome, too. my grandma used to make the best caramel. i'm too scared to make it, i think it's the candy thermometer! your fabric and twine combo is super pretty, too. i've been looking for some twine like that, but not having much luck.
@Chiotilidieo: personalized m&ms are so cool. mrs. sunshine? (i think) used them, too, but hers were pink & green.
@simplifiedbride: They will come packaged in their own individual white boxes from the orchard an we'll dress them up with burnt orange and brown ribbon (our wedding colors) and a matching favor tag. I'm also entertaining the idea of printing an additional tag to put on the bottom with heating directions but we'll see about that.
@UpstateCait: if you're worried about tags/printing, i'm using these from envelopperinc for my escort cards. they're called "clean cut" and are 12 to a page that can be easily fed through the printer. they come with a word or pdf template. seems easier than trying to cricuit them, and i can't afford sure cuts a lot software to design my own tags.
@cherrycoke: sounds perfect for an october wedding. i'd be stoked to go home with a treat that good!
On one of our first dates we went hiking and I made chocolate chip banana bread. We got to the top of the mountain and it was cold and wet and really rainy. I pulled out the bread from my backpack and he told me months later that he had though- why hasn't someone married this lady? So, I made little banana breads and stuck them in little cardboard boxes that I stamped and put little cards with that story on. It was fun and easy to make the week before, but getting everything in all the boxes the day before was a real pain. Luckily, I had wonderful bridesmaids who made sure it all got done.
We had a trail mix buffet and loved it! Craisins, peanuts, cashews, chocolate chips, cheerios, sixlets and banana chips.
@kirafiki: chocolate chip banana bread? that sounds delish! i bet my FI would like it, too, i'll have to look up a recipe. I worried about the stress of having to package fresh edible favors right before the wedding. That's why beer works well, all the time consuming work is done way ahead of time.
@soonerpsych: trail mix buffet, as in make your own trail mix? how cool is that. Fi and I would have been all over that. What a good idea.
I'm loving all the different favors everyone had/will have. Such tasty unique ideas!
We're making "puppy chow". http://www.momswhothink.com/easy-recipes/puppy-chow-recipe.html
All of these are making me hungry! wow and i love that there is so much variety, i would have never of thought to do something like bakerella's caramel (which I'm hoping I will eventually get to try since you live so close missy) and kirafiki's banana bread.
Everything on this thread looks so yummy, pretty & are just so creative!
@simplifiedbride: I don't use a candy thermometre to make my caramel! This is the recipe, I use. Super simple, always tasty. Just be careful, there's a thin line between a lovely caramel tone and burnt, LOL! I've thrown out a few batches ;) The twine I just got I think at the grocery store, or try the post office, or the office section in a dollar store. It's just plain and simple old twine. All the fabric I got at JoAnn Fabric, I actually had a different pattern for each table, which then coordinated with a fabric covered button on the escort cards.
We had a variety of chocolate goodies packaged in white boxes and wrapped with sheer fuschia ribbon~they doubled as the centerpieces. We had chocolate truffles, mini cupcake truffles, chocolate dipped Oreos, and large pecan turtles. These were all handmade by an Etsy seller who shipped them in cold packs from Minnesota to NJ in late June. She did a great job and her goodies were fabulous, plus she coordinated all the sprinkles with the wedding colors.

cupcake truffles

@smyley: wow, that looks amazing! yum. what a good idea, too... having them double as the centerpieces.
My MIL made her toffee. 3 months later I'm still getting calls and emails begging me for the recipe.
We got married in Brooklyn, NY, so our favors were mini black & white cookies (a NYC staple and favorite!). They were a HUGE (I mean people bartering for them) hit. I know they may be a little difficult to see in the picture, but they're wrapped in cello bags and on the side of the plate.
We did personalized M&Ms in silver and purple -- put them in a frosted "pillow" with silver and purple ribbon and a silver label with our names and date. We also did a candy bar and had purple take-away bags with silver labels that said "Sweet Beginnings..." on it.
@simplifiedbride: Yep, mix your own trail mix buffet!

@smyley: I wish I had cookie dough truffles! Those look delicious!!!
i found some custom fortune cookies on this site, u could personalize a message in each one my friend had a chinese wedding and for wedding favors she had custom fortune cookies inside the take out boxes and wrapped the boxes in a red bow. it was really pretty. i love it when the wedding favors are edible or useful.
We made a homebrew for our wedding favors! :)
My husband and I have been homebrewing for a little over 2 years. For our wedding we wanted to leave our guests a favor that represented us and showed our appreciation for them being there.
So we created a homebrew! A light continental pilsner with citrus accents. We saved the typical amber microbrew bottles for almost a year. Cleaned and sanitized them all. We also designed and created our own labels calling them Brew HaHa and with the double happiness punch that is through all our paper goods.
Little favor tags were double sided, doubling as escort cards with guests name and table # the flip side (I'm sad I have no pics of this side!) side Thank You in english, chinese and german.
And you can almost see I also generated our own UPC code with our wedding date and the "ingredients". All our guests loved the brew! For the kiddos we created Loganberry, a regional beverage. :)
The finished product:
