Share the dress that broke your heart, just didn't work

I was so set on a lace dress with straps that was more shaped to my body (no poof).  I was against satin, tulle, poof of any kind… I ended up with a a-line dress with a satin bodice and full tulle skirt.  Tried it on and fell in love.  I say try on lots of things and find a place that won’t get stuck on what you tell them you want.  I went into a store where she only brought me what I wanted… which is nice in theory, but I couldn’t know if I just didn’t like wedding dresses at all, or if these just didn’t work on me.  I kept asking to try on different styles but she said “you won’t like it.”  I then went to another place where the sales person was kind and took the time with me.  She brought me anything I asked and suggested I try on the dress I fell in love with.  It was a huge departure for me, but I’m happy I tried on something new and different and didn’t just go for the first thing I thought I wanted.

For me it was shape! I was IN LOVE with the snow white dress from alfred angelo, but the waste stopped to high and made me look a lot bigger then i really way :(

I ended up purchasing the Allure C157, which honestly i was not sure about until I put it on.  It had a lot of the same aspects of the Snow White, plus more! I love the low back, and the waste are made me look curvy in a super good way!

I think that you need to try on a lot of styles, and don’t be afraid to step out of the box! You never know what will or wont look good on you until you try it on!

Good Luck :)

This was one of my favorite dresses from DB. It looks so good on everyone I’ve seen it on. Unfortunately it didnt look any near as good on me. I was so sad, I seriously went to DB thinking that I would be coming home with this dress.

Looking online at David’s Bridal, I thought for sure this was the dress. But when I tried it on, it was nice, but it just was too plain. It’s not a bad dress, and it’s not unflattering, just wasn’t the one. I ended up going for something COMPLETELY different (Can’t post pics, FI knows I’m on here ALL THE TIME)

I thought this Alvina Valenta was going to be it, but after trying it on multiple times and trying to convince myself it was it, I realized it wasn’t my personality.

This is the Modern Trosseau gown I ended up with :)

I knew this would be my dress… until the straps I so desperately wanted made my chest look even bigger than it is. I’m not at all broken hearted though, because I found a dress that looks amazing and flatters my body better than this one did.

ETA: The dress I will be wearing next weekend!!!

I went to David’s Bridal SURE that I was going to get one of the short dresses below.  The first with the cap sleeves because I’ve loved it for YEARS and the second because it looked fun and I love that it has polka dots on the tulle!

However on me, they were not working.  I HATED the cap sleeved dress in person and the ivory color, which usually looks amazing against my skin, looked dirty and off.  Plus it was an odd combination of beading and lace that I thought looked great in pictures, but I just wasn’t a fan of it in person.  The second dress looked good but it didn’t feel special enough… and that really surprised me because I’ve been saying forever that I’m a short dress kinda gal!

But then I tried on this beauty and I loved it!  It still has the polka dot tulle and the bottom is so, so, soooo fun!  It screams me and I am so happy with my purchase!

When I first started looking online I fell in LOVE with the Alfred Angelo Snow White dress. I loved everything about it… the neckline, the blossoms, the skirt, the FEEL of the dress… everything. Well, until I tried it on. I am a really petite person and I felt like the dress just swallowed me whole! I was swimming in fabric and I looked like a child. I was very disappointed to let that gown go, but then I found something else that had blossoms just like the snow white dress but fit me MUCH better.

(Can you tell how hard I am fake smiling, lol!!) Snow White gown:

I went originally wanting a Justin Alexander tea length dress (Justin Alexander 8465) but it made me look short and the skirt came out a bit too much for my liking. It is a beautiful dress just not for me.

I got sonsie by veromia in aubergine (son91280). Its such a beautiful dress, I got that dress moment you hear about when I tried it on, I would of worn it home that day.

Soo many dresses that I cant even remember. I think I tried on ATLEAST 75 dresses. I swore I wanted lace and a-line with some sort of sleeves and a long train. I ended up with a dress that has no lace, very short train, and more of a ballgown.

I fell in love with Allure 8634 online. It was perfect – champagne lace with straps. I was sold until I tried it on and realized I hated absolutely everything about the chest… I know the sample was too big, but I just couldn’t get over the feeling that it would swallow me up, even in my size. (I also was not a fan of the bling on the belt, hence the floral cover up. My consultant put the new belt on just so I wouldn’t be distracted when I looked at the photos when i got home.)

The back was gorgeous though and was the sole reason it remained cemented as my #2 even though I knew deep down that I would probably never actually own it.

@6598731ssfse3:  @vintagefair:  I love the dresses you both ended up choosing. You both look stunning! I think I may have tried them both on too :)
