I am hoping to post this to create some constructive criticism. I am not trying to bash a vendor or weddingbee.  I hope they can use this and any additional feedback added to help improve the site.

My story and experience with the Vendor Review Section of WB:

I was so excited when I heard that WB was added a vendor review section.  This was one of the hardest parts of wedding planning for me, especially because I was planning my wedding from a distance.

However, when the new board came one, first of all I was disappointed to see that it was powered by WeddingWire.  There have been several posts here on WB advising not to trust their reviews because if the vendor disputes the review (which typically only happens with negative reviews) then the review is removed while it is being evaluated.

I was still looking forward to reviewing my wedding vendors on this site since I did have many positive experiences.  However, this section is so hard to use.  While the team has been responsive to adding additional cities, they haven’t actually created vendor sections for each city.

Additionally, there are no useful search/sort features on this section.  It would be helpful if I could even properly return a search for a vendor that I know is listed.  Also, if I was just browsing for vendors, the city search returns a mile long list with vendors that aren’t located anywhere near my city (3+ hour drive?!).   With that mile long list, all I can do is search by popularity or by name.  Ummm, how about just showing me the ones that won’t charge a travel fee!

All this section has created for me is a big sloppy mess of vendors that I can’t search through with reviews I’m not sure I can trust.

I agree most of my vendors are not listed. I wish we could add them ourselves. And not allow the vendors to delete reviews

@mishelleez: Word on not allowing vendors to delete reviews. That's just shady. If you do a bad job, I want her hear about it before I book you.

My biggest complaint is that I can't post a review until after I get married.  I bought my dress over the weekend and wanted to review my experience while it was still fresh in my mind, but instead I have to wait over a year until after my wedding date.  I don't get that.

I also agree that the search function should be a bit more user friendly.  it'd be nice to search price ranges willingness to travel, especially for photographers.

There is only one vendor for my city listed, and it's the one *I* personally reviewed. So, everytime I visit weddingbee, my own review of my photographer is what shows up on the sidebar. Not a big deal (they were GREAT and I hope other people do book them), but something  I thought was mentionable here (I chose "other" for the poll).

@maryjane: Thats funny that there is only one vendor in your area and thousands for mine.

I just get frustrated that when I say I want to look at Melbourne Florida vendors, then why do I also have to look at people from over 3 hours away.

I don't trust WEddingWire because they take down negative reviews when disputed and its a very long hard process to get them back up.  You have to *prove* you used the vendor and had the issue etc, which is a lot of work for someone who is just trying to provide a helpful review.

I stopped looking at vendor reviews because they all have great reviews! And realistically that can't be possible. Plus, hearing about all these things about vendors being able to remove negative reviews??? What's the point of having vendor reviews then?! Now that I've been on WB for awhile, I rather just post something here and ask for recommendations than look vendors up on the reviews.

    Two things:

    1) not being able to just search. Its annoying.

    2) you can't review until after your wedding date! That makes sense for some things (venue, food, ect), but as an across-the-board rule? Sorry I think thats kind of dumb. I had an awesome experience at a bridal salon, and a terrible experience at a different one. I'd really like to post those reviews now that the dress portion of the wedding is done, but I am not allowed to because I'm not yet married. argh.

@HisButtercup I could NOT agree more! What's the point, you write a review when it's fresh in your mind not months or a year later and just because your wedding hasn't actually taken place yet you can't post a review? It doesn't make sense to me either. Since I attempted I haven't bothered to look at the reviews on here because I personally don't believe you can write an honest review when it's not fresh on your mind.

@CorgiTales even with food reviews, what if you have a really bad experience with a company while you're looking for your caterer BEFORE your wedding. Shouldn't you be able to review the company you didn't pick, same goes for venues etc.

I completely agree with you guys, I forgot about that annoying feature as well.

I was shopping for a dress and LOVED the salon and the owner.  I didn't end up getting my dress there but I would HIGHLY recommend the salon.

I loved a certain jeweler I went to in my town, and someone gave them a bad review because they found a diamond cheaper somewhere else.  The jeweler WASN'T overcharging, that person was just being ridiculous.

I don't trust the reviews and the vendor locations aren't part of that city.  I live in a fairly good size area and my city isn't listed, so I have to look through cities that are hours from here.  Not very helpful.  If they created another city like "OTHER" for each state and then let all those who aren't in the other cities post vendors there then it would be more helpful!

The vendor reviews on WB's sister site Project Wedding are much better overall. They are not run by Wedding Wire at all, thus no need to worry about negative reviews being removed. There is a much wider selection of choices of vendors.

I've browsed the vendor reviews section at WB once it was implemented and did not find it useful in the least.

Most of my vendors are not on there.  Also the nearest town that shows up is 50 miles away...  There are a number of brides from the Ithaca area.

I also don't trust the reveiws. Some vendors get bad reveiws and they are warranted. If the review is proven to be false, then yes, it should be removed, but on the other hand, I think that there should be an opportunity for the vendor to explain their side of the story, and then prospective customers/clients can make a more informed decision. That is my perspective as a bride.

I am also a vendor, and I stand on the above; however, it would be nice if brides could reveiw vendors before they are married. I cater to brides prior to their weddings, and by the time their wedding takes place, I know the last thing they want to do is go back and reveiw a vendor that they dealt with over a year ago. They just want to get on with their new lives.

I think if there is a reason that the vendor wants/needs to disput a review, then they should be able to chime in.  However, just removing the post doesn't make sense.  It needs to be up there for the many people relying on the reviews to plan their wedding.

One of the vendors seems to have solved the bad review problem by creating fake good reviews for himself, balancing out the terrible reviews to get a good overall rating. There are 20-some "5 out of 5" ratings after ratings like 0.5, 0.7... I just put up a post about it. A lot of these reviews seem so obviously faked-- there are at least two pairs of identical reviews by "different" reviewers with different accounts on here. This just makes me sick. I wonder if it's illegal.

@AnneNM82:  if you think there are fake reviews, you should be able to flag the profile to Weddingwire and they will investigate (including contacting the bride and requesting proof of contract.

If you have any trouble doing this, please let me know.

    Hope this helps!

I get really frustrated trying to find vendors in my city. If you search for South Bend, you get hundreds of vendors from Chicago--a two hour drive away, and generally much more expensive than the local vendors! I have pretty much given up on looking here, I mostly just use google reviews :(
