We were both on leave restriction at work until two weeks before our wedding. We thought we might be able to get away with going somewhere so like you we just researched lots and then tried to be flexible between our top few choices to avoid total price gouging. We ended up in disneyworld and it was super fun and we got a good deal on the flight and a big upgrade at the hotel when we arrived.

I see no problem with that! I would have done the same thing if we hadn’t had a particular place we wanted to stay 🙂

It sounds so romantic!

I didn’t book my Honeymoon like that, but I have booked tons of vacations that way.

It will always work out.  But you have to stay flexible.  If you want only at a specific resort, in a specific type of room, you may not get it.  But if you just check for all inclusives, 1 week, going south, you will get a fantastic deal.  Generally much better then what you would by pre-booking.

I personally don’t give a darn about the resort name.  If you are booking a 5 star, they are all pretty similar.  The lower the ranking the less predicitble.  But I typically book 4 stars or more.

Don’t even waste your time on the reviews.  They are usually written by people who are expecting north american service and standards in developing countries. Or complain about things like sand in the beach front rooms.

I know a couple who does this all the time with cruises. They are retired and live in Florida, so they just keep a suitcase in their closet ready to go.  They are on some kind of list with a cruise line, and they call them if there are any last-minute cancellations or the cruise isn’t full.  Sometimes they get a call a few hours before the ship leaves, but they always get AMAZING deals.
