So I thought of this after a joke in How I Met Your Mother about Marshall and Lily sharing a toothbrush...does anyone else do that?
All the characters on the show were super weirded out by the idea, but I'll admit that the mister and I kinda do it too. We have maybe 4 tootbrushes between the two of us, two in the medicine cabinet and two in the shower and we always just use what's closest. So I guess we share all four? Maybe it's a little gross. Hmmm.
I have, on occasion, used my FI's toothbrush. This is usually when we have been out of town and I forgot my own. He thinks it's disgusting, so I don't usually tell him!
No way! Bleck! We're both neurotically clean, so toothbrush sharing won't happen with us.
I have a small mouth- so I still use a pediatric toothbrush, so I don't think we could share. But I must admit I shared most of the characters reactions [read: ew]
I was wondering if this was referencing the HIMYM episode when I saw the title! :P
We've only shared on occasion, like when one of us forgot our toothbrush somewhere else, or if it broke, etc. I think it's happened maybe 5 times in our 5 1/2 year relationship.
We've shared when one of us forgets a toothbrush, or if one of us uses the other's accidentally, it's not a big deal. He's the ONLY Person I could ever do that with!
Yuck yuck yuck!!! Ugh, that makes me shudder! I don't know if I would do it even in an emergency situation. That totally squicks me out!
Ew no way. My boy and I have lived together for over 5 years so we have pretty loose boundaries, but using eachothers toothbrush would make those boundaries WAY too loose for my liking.
I have accidentally used his a couple of times... I don't like to think about it lol I really just rather not share.
maybe only once..and it was me using his. He would NEVER use mine though. FI is a dentist and he knows all too well how many bugs live comfortably in toothbrushes. :D
Nope. I have an electric toothbrush and he has a regular one. I've only used his on the rarest of occassions--like my battery died in mine and I'd already trashed the headpiece and I basically had no toothbrush. Or when I'd fly to see him (when we were LDR for 5 years) it was inevtiable that one of us would occassionally forget a toothbrush and we'd have to go buy one the next day.
We share a toilet. Toilets collect poop. Poop is grosser than mouth scurf. =]
I'll use his or vice versa if we're away and one of us forgets ours. I don't really like the idea but if it comes down to using his toothbrush or not brushing my teeth at all, I'd rather brush them.
Emergency situations only. Otherwise, no. Something about that grosses me out. I've done it accidently before though...!
We have a pretty open relationship, but this grosses me out so much. My bf used my toothbrush once or twice, and I freaked out, so he knows not to do it anymore. :)
Absolutely not!! Wal-greens is open 24 hours a day so that is not necessary. On top of that...if we are going on an overnight trip someplace a toothbrush is the first thing we pack. We may be super anal but we don't share toothbrushes or washcloths....both sets of parents have that drilled into our heads....LOL
Nope. Def not...i think we did it on accident once or twice...but never on purpose. The concept grosses me out.
we don't share a toothbrush, but in a pinch i wouldn't have a problem using his or vice versa... you're sharing all those germs when you kiss anyway!

the boy toy and i have a few tooth brushes (probably 2-3) and we share...
i really don't see the big deal, or ew factor, considering we use toothpaste (its purpose is to neutralize bacteria) and we both use mouth wash...not to mention i kiss him!
Lol, I love HIMYM, so I HAD to respond to this. We do not share a toothbrush, don't think I ever would (he might be okay with it). Watching this episode was hilarious because one of my roommates is so grossed out by toothbrushing, she can't even walk by an open bathroom door when someone is brushing. She squeals whenever there is someone on tv brushing, so watching together this week was so funny (for us, not her)!
Yeah, our mouths are like the dirtiest place on our bodies. haha
I would not share a toothbrush.
That's SO gross. I don't share drinks, food, etc with other people at all.
I would brush my teeth with my finger before I would use (even) his toothbrush.
We'd do it. We haven't, but we wouldn't have a problem if it came down to it. As someone said above, we swap cooties on a regular basis anyway!
yeah we do sometimes, it usually comes down to us being lazy, or forgetting one on travels, but I have a bunch of toothbrushes in the bathroom so it's kinda just like I forgot which ones he had used and which ones I had. I don't go anywhere near his electric toothbrush though, that thing kinda skeezes me out lol.
We don't share toothbrushes. It's just a little too much for me to handle.:)
haha, i think it's all so funny. i mean, my reaction to the episode was "ew, yuck" but then i realized it's practically no different from my situation.
and believe me, i have tried to keep one of our four toothbrushes as MINE, but it just hasn't worked. and i don't care enough to make a thing out of it...so i guess we are sharing. but i tell myself he uses the other ones :)
Ugh.. I don't think I could do it. Even in an 'emergency' situation. I just think of all the bacteria from the other person's mouth being spread all over my mouth... It's a bit more "intimate" then I can handle.
We've done it very occasionally if one person forgets theirs. But I don't think it's hygienic enough to do on a regular basis.
I am too neurotic about dental hygiene to do that. I dont even let people touch my toothbrush. He jokingly licked the handle one time and I threw it straight in the trash. Eeew no, I would gag
Oh I LOVE HIMYM and this week's episode was hilarious! Anyway, we do not share a toothbrush. The idea totally grosses me out. Ewww! We are pretty open and share lots of things but toothbrushes are not one of them.
I am friends with a couple that does this. And he dips (chewing tobacco), and they only brush them in the morning. And they don't see how this is gross and thinks that everyone else is weird.
ew no I wouldn't....I just asked FH though and he said yeah sure y not?? lol
