...... 8 O ...I hope no one uses that for a real wedding... I'd be totally freaked out if I saw that at someones wedding.
I'd be happy to see that awareness at a wedding. It is the demand at weddings that kills those sharks.
Well the shark fin industry was whipped out in Japan by the tsunami. I don't support it but it was inculded on my wedding menu against my wishes. My fiance thought it would be best for the guests since many expect it. I actually prefer crab or lobster soup.
Thanks for the post. If my wedding can still happen I will request a different soup. ^_^
@adw2c: If you can try presenting the issue on the other side of it. That sharks are becoming insticnt and WILL be soon if the demand is not curbed. Even IF it is expected, I am aware that it is... but sometimes the "demanders" are unaware about the cruel practices, the illegal trade, and the determint of our oceans... maybe if you presented the info to your fiance he may re-consider. I really urge you to try. Do some research so you have some facts. Finning is wiping out the oceans top predator. If we do that there will most definately be an over population on all that sharks feed on...
There are many Chinese organizations that are urging and helpiong couples explain why they may choose to remove shark fin from the menu. Again, some research is needed here.
If all else fails (which I hope to hell you succeed) serve ONLY the elders the soup. It is very likely other guests like friends and the younger generation that will not care one way or the other if they eat shark. My friend did this and it was only because I threanted to not attend if she served me the soup. Yes, I'm passionate- and yes, I'll take a stand for it. It was ONE bowl only... and may not be much in the big picture but 1 less bowl was as much as I could get from her.
Anyways goodluck and please keep trying. It's a huge issue.
Wow, that is one intense cake, granted it is terrible that the sharks are becoming endangered.
@adw2c: ummm...but... YAY!!!!! a shame it had to happen in such a horrific way, though, and unfortunatly, it'll come back after Japan recovers...
as for the cake.... hopefully it made a lasting impression!

This cake was made as a protest to the cruelty bestowed on sharks used to make shark fin soup served at most chinese weddings.
